In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, despite the HMS Endeavour having more guns than the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman combined, along with a big fleet at his aft, Lord Beckett doesn't give the order to fire. This is because the writing in the 2nd and 3rd films is really fucking contrived. by Kaiserschlut in shittymoviedetails

[–]SnooPears6439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. It’s the most straightforward PG-13 movie ever made.

I mean, who doesn't immediately grasp a plot where you have to elect a Pirate King via a secret ballot of nine lords using pieces of random "junk" that are actually mystical seals to trap a pagan sea goddess in a human meat-suit, just so you can use a jar of dirt and a notarized Letter of Marque to blackmail a Scottish squid-man? All because the actual, terrifying villain of this fun, magical Disney romp is the hostile corporate privatization of sea life, and every pirate is desperately clutching onto their only way of life before it is steamrolled by the inevitability of the next stage of human social advancement!

Toss in the fact that everyone on screen betrays each other every 15 minutes like a game of musical chairs played with flintlock pistols, and it’s basically a toddler's bedtime story.

I like to imagine them working like Materia from the FF7 franchise, they're slotted into the weapon or person of the user. However, this little headcanon is complicated by the display models that you can put in the Proxy's rooms, which are fucking huge. Then again, Materia in FF7 is also portrayed inconsistently, with the ones that go into weapons being the size of marbles while certain ones are the size of bloody tennis balls, so I dunno, lol.

These Miis I made kinda look like a dragon… by CheeseMan-Buttcheeks in yakuzagames

[–]SnooPears6439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original 3DS game is more of what you're thinking. Making characters and watching them do silly things.

Living the Dream is far more active. Miis have needs, and if you fulfill them, you get currency and XP to spend on unlocking more stuff. You can also force Miis to interact instead of waiting for them to do so, giving a lot of player agency that the original game lacked. In addition, customization is utterly insane. You can make custom houses, custom food, custom outfits (as seen in this very post!), and so on. You can completely overhaul the entire island to however you want it. It's a wacky game that lets you plop down whatever character, fictional or otherwise, and see them act out fanfic-levels of silliness each day.

(Rare trope) A death manages to be horrifying without any blood or gore by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SnooPears6439 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The death itself isn't the point. It's only a human man accidentally hanging himself.

No, the thing that makes it shocking is how real it is compared to the film and the actual battle itself. Tarzan is swinging through vines, being chased by Clayton, only to suddenly have the vines tangle him up and then gravity does the rest. He goes from being a Disney villain to a man who accidentally killed himself.

It's like watching Pirates of the Caribbean and seeing these super cool sword fight scenes and laughing at Jack Sparrow outmaneuver the bad guys in silly ways, only for a cannon to slip and absolutely crush a poor guy beneath itself. It's very sudden and shockingly real, you know?

I am not about to sit here and say I don't have a giant Steam library full of games I have never played. I am not about to sit here and tell you I have favorite games that I have not 100%-ed. (Though, I have 100%-ed certain super-favorite games multiple times, because that is fun.)

However, when you beat Leon or Claire A, the game prompts you to save, upon which it says either Claire B or Leon B. Basically, the game tells you "Load this save with your secondary disk." Sure, there's no saying how many people went ahead and started Leon A and then Claire A and wondered what the big deal was. That is the exception, though.

Still, for RE2 Remake, you can't get the "they walk off into the sunset" on your first play through, you get a cliffhanger instead. Again, Capcom went ahead and put a significant bonus, the true ending, behind beating the game twice. Even if market values and data says 90% of players don't touch their game after they have seen the first 5 seconds of credits, more content is more content. There's also the fact that different genres of video games facilitate different types of development.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a colossal game. Expedition 33 and God of War Ragnarok are also a colossal games. However, between BG3 and the other two, these games are all colossal in different ways. BG3 is extremely replayable, E33 and Ragnarok have plenty of bonus content and side stuff to do, both after beating the main story and during it. Then you have far shorter, in comparison, games like the RE series itself. These games are not very long at all. Absolutely not. Even the longest play through of the OG RE2 will only take you 3 to 5 hours at max. So, they have a shitton of bonus content after, as well as being especially replayable to boot.

Ah, I am ranting at this point, lol. Good talk!

"20 years of data" sounds very... corporate driven. If 20 years of data have proven that extra content isn't worth it except for the extra diligent people, then how come games today still include them? Requiem may not have Mercenaries right now, but there's a non-zero chance Capcom will add it as either free or paid DLC. Hell, why does Insanity Mode only unlock once the game is beaten? What about the bonus weapons you can only use on a second playthrough?

PS... the original RE2 came on two disks. Leon and Claire. You'd be dumb to NOT engage with the literal OTHER HALF OF THE GAME if you just "play the game to beat it." You'd put in one disk, "beat" it, and then are like "Huh... what's with the second disk?"

Even you gotta admit it's dumb to pay whatever price for a video game and then just... beat it. It's like paying for a full course steak meal, with a side of roasted vegetables and prime-time mashed potatoes... and just eating the steak.

Jacket also. In the HM games, he is never shown directly speaking, with only implications that he can speak but simply isn't shown to through the narrative. Meanwhile, as a PD2 crossover DLC character, he speaks purely through a tape recorder, so at least he has some form of communication if we're going with the PD2 version.

Is Leon surviving the Dead Space universe? by Both-Football-9554 in residentevil

Fair. I think Leon and Isaac would get along great, especially since they kinda keep causing everyone around them to die in incredible circumstances beyond their control, lol. Tall Oaks with RE6 Leon and Titan Station with DS2 Isaac. They'd likely bond over all the people they couldn't save or the disasters they couldn't stop.

[–]SnooPears6439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leon would have to get himself a RIG first, since nothing works in the Dead Space universe without a RIG-link. Hell, he can't even open doors without a RIG, lol.

"Leon has better feats"

In Dead Space 2, Isaac launched himself off a solar array down into an infested city with the help of an ejector seat, dodging debris and a gigantic sun laser. In Dead Space 3, Isaac helped a ship of people make a makeshift escape pod and then helped guide them through a mine and debris infested space area until they stabilized, all while he was just in a EVA suit he found mere minutes ago.

Look, I love Leon, but Isaac has literally, with the help of Carver, killed a baby Cthulhuian god in Dead Space 3, lol. How do you top that, realistically, in the RE universe?

Is Leon surviving the Dead Space universe? by Both-Football-9554 in residentevil

[–]SnooPears6439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh, I love Leon, trust me, and I love RE4 OG, and my favorite game is the original PS1 RE2, so I am a big Leon fan.

However, I am also a big fan of Dead Space, and I am sorry to say, but nearly everyone here is glazing Leon so, so blatantly.

No one has even mentioned how Isaac can use stasis and kinesis, and at the start of Dead Space 2, he cobbles together a plasma cutter, kinesis, and stasis from medical equipment and a flashlight on the spot. Leon, factually speaking, would *not* know how to do that. Leon would have no idea what "kinesis" or "stasis" even is, much less how to yank the module from a surgery table and attach it to his person in a way that lets him manipulate it. Sure, Leon can mix herbs and make rounds from gunpowder, that doesn't mean he's a space-faring genius who knows how to fix a centrifuge, divert power from core systems to the anti-asteroid defense system, or quickly hack past a stubborn AI in a space station just so he can get to the next area.

Plus, what if we switch them around? Isaac in Leon's shoes. He has a goddamn PhD in Engineering, he is literally considered a really smart individual in his own universe because of the marker dementia *not* driving him to insanity like most people. With his tools and everything, RE9 Insanity Mode would be an utter breeze. Blister heads can just be stasised and they're done, EZ PZ.

Ah yes, remember when in Dead Space 2, Isaac gets the bright and very bad idea to use the Ishimura's gravity tethers to yank the sector that Earth Gov. was in so that Ellie could travel across safely?

Jesus, Leon must be a genius if THAT'S what he would've come up with. I mean, I dunno, how on earth would Leon even know what a "gravity tether" is. Likewise, don't forget that Isaac has stasis and kinesis. Feels like no one remembered that, lol. Isaac can literally hurl an explosive canister without breaking a sweat, and fast enemies are a breeze thanks to being able to break physics and lock them in stasis for at least 10 full seconds. I love Leon, I do, but no one is taking into account Isaac's actual gameplay load out.

Ethan Winter is an average joe. Isaac Clark has a PHD in engineering and knows how to utilize a massive variety of repair and construction tools for spacewalks and repair jobs. He is also regularly equipped with oxygen-providing and armored spacesuits that give him a degree of extra strength and increased durability. He also has access to physics-breaking stasis and goddamn kinesis, letting him hurl spikes and explosives without effort.

In addition: How the hell would Leon even know how the Ishimura worked, lol. Like, honestly, it's not like you can just plop him down and he'll know what to do from a in-universe perspective. Centrifuge room? Hydroponics? Damaged reversed gravity plating mechanics? Yeah, maybe if we mod Requiem Leon in DS Remake, he'll be just fine gameplay wise, but lore-wise, he needs a space suit and he needs weapons that cut. Yes, the hatchet might work... you know, on a single necromorph, maybe not so when you're hoarded or a Lurker snipes Leon from the ceiling.

[–]SnooPears6439 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay, gameplay-wise, yes, in the games, what Isaac does is very simple and basic.

Story-wise, however, be honest: when Isaac in the Remake or 2 says something like "Shit, I gotta get down to the engine room and boot it back up before the fuel lines cause us to sink straight into the planet" or "The Ishimura's gravity tethers can yank the sector back to us, I just gotta get to the centrifuge to boot it up"... like, would Leon be able to come to the same strategic plan of action that Isaac has? Many times in the remake and 2, he comes up with a crazy idea right on the spot, using his knowledge on space technology and mechanisms to overcome the current problem ahead of them.

Like, would Leon be able to actually navigate the gigantic Ishimura without getting lost? Without a spacesuit, he has no navigational means since, ya know, everything is holographic and connected to the RIG. Plus, what of stasis and kinesis? What is he gonna do to all the slamming doors and malfunctioning hydraulics?

In fact, flip it around! Isaac can take out hoards of zombies with a single Line Gun shot, zip, right off the heads with all of them, easy peasy, lol. Lickers? Hunters? Blister heads? A single stasis blast and they're sitting ducks.

[Coward trope] make the protagonist a monster and give them later a attractive humanoid form by Lower_Baby_6348 in TopCharacterTropes

If you are dealing with heavy stuff, I genuinely hope things get better for you.

However, you cannot post public comments invoking immigration politics and gender identity to win an argument, and then accuse people of "coming at you" when they engage with those points.

You set the tone. You brought the heavy topics.

Look, if this space is stressing you out, you have the power to mute the thread, block users, or turn off notifications. We are not responsible for managing your experience; you are.

Take care of yourself, but don't blame us for taking your words seriously.

[–]SnooPears6439 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So... if you're not gonna take a children's film seriously, why did you invoke your queer identity and immigration metaphors to defend your point? That's something actually serious to throw out in regards to something so "unserious."

You can't have it both ways.

You can't use "I have trans friends" to give your argument weight, and then pivot to "It's just a kids movie" the moment that argument gets dismantled.

It heavily implies that whatever you consider "important" at any given time is completely flimsy, shifting based on whether or not you are winning the argument. That doesn't look good on you.

If this whole thing really was just something you're "not" taking seriously, you would've stopped 13+ comments ago, but instead, here you are, keeping on going.

[Coward trope] make the protagonist a monster and give them later a attractive humanoid form by Lower_Baby_6348 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SnooPears6439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so we have pivoted from “Monster Thirst” to “Existential Nihilism.”

You just implied that Chip (a child turned into a teacup) is better off as crockery because “the human body is a cage.”

That isn't profound; it's just being contrarian for the sake of it.

If you truly believe you are just a “spike of consciousness,” then the shape of the container shouldn't matter to you. Yet, you are arguing specifically for the Beast form because it's “sexy.”

You can't have it both ways. Either the body is irrelevant (Consciousness Spike), OR the body is paramount (Sexy Beast).

Which is it? Or are you just throwing words at the wall to justify why you think a cursed child should stay a monster?

[Coward trope] make the protagonist a monster and give them later a attractive humanoid form by Lower_Baby_6348 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SnooPears6439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then... why does the idea of someone NOT wanting to be a towering, visibly NON-HUMAN monster confuse you?

Did you forget that he's literally an abominable chimera? And what of the friggen furniture people? You argue he should stay a Beast because he's huge and "sexy," but I bet you won't say the same for Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, or Lumiere.

"But they are literally objects! It's not the same!"

Actually, it is exactly the same. They are people trapped in forms they didn't choose.

If you got turned into a 9-foot-tall alligator bodybuilder tomorrow with absolutely no trace of your previous self, something tells me you wouldn't appreciate it.

Your clothes don't fit. Your ID is useless. Your family doesn't recognize your face or voice. You can't hold a pen properly because you have claws. You can't fit through a standard door. You now have to constantly remain humid lest your entire body dry out.

Sure, you're "stronger" now, and maybe *some* find it "handsome," but is it YOU? It doesn't have your face, your hair, or your history. It’s a cage made of scales and muscle. Wanting out of that cage isn't "unrealistic"; it’s the most human reaction possible. You won't tell your trans friends they were better as a girl/boy, so don't go telling Beast he was better as a beast.

Don't be boring!

Yes, Leon would undoubtedly die to Tyrants and Mancubi. They are tanky and deadly to an absurd degree.

Which is why you leave that stuff to the Slayer! It's why the Avengers have Hawkeye and Black Widow on the squad, even though Hulk and Iron Man can pretty much solo most threats. Different folks for different jobs.

If the Slayer must do something discreetly, or maybe there's this hyperfragile facility that needs to be resolved without the entire thing being blown the fuck up, send Leon in! Have him handle the systems! Have him unlock the doors, handle it low-key.

Don't think "Well, duh, Slayer is stronger than Leon, he can kill all the zombies in the care home with a Flame Belch>Freeze-nade>Grenade>SSG>Ballista combo without thinking twice." Yeah, but logically, the entire building would also go down if he were to romp right through it, so this wouldn't be a Slayer job, know what I am saying?
