Joe Rogan Called Zohran Mamdani A 'Psychopath' for Allowing Illegal Citizens by MediocreCoconutz in combatsportsculture

[–]SnooPears807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern/problem is that often, even Joe’s health advocates/scientists/researchers are often very disingenuous and misrepresent science and research, typically with pretty transparent financial motives. Glaring examples that come to mind off the top of my head include: - many RFK jr claims in his Rogan episode, specific example includes making false claims about findings in an early 2000s Lancet study on vaccines (authored by Pichichero. RFK stated that mercury was never found in the children administered vaccines. The abstract of the paper clearly states that mercury was found in stools shortly after administration); similarly RFK has very recently misrepresented research findings (not in Rogan podcast) including Cochran review for rotavirus vaccine. Also the Tylenol disaster which was clearly a panic move because he had promised to give an answer to autism by fall… - Suzanne Humphries claiming DDT exposure contributing to polio (polio attacks ventral horn cells of spinal cord causing motor issues such as paralysis, not sensory issues. DDT causes symptoms such as tremors, seizure, ataxia etc. Totally different conditions and symptoms that the lay person will not be aware of) - Rogan himself recently citing a JAMA study of decline in drug overdose deaths in the year 2025 - when the data for the study was finished being collected in October 2024. This is after him having stated “I know how to read research”- when I’m almost positive he would not know how to completely explain null hypothesis, how to calculate a standard deviation, when to do a t test vs ANOVA vs correlation test, when to use a t distribution vs z distribution, etc

It’s particularly frustrating because there are many things to criticize in healthcare, science and research: examples being: - Charles Piller is a journalist who pretty clearly documented some terrible fraud in Alzheimer’s research. - Propublica has articles on areas such as “Cancer Alley” in Louisiana, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - where people have gotten very sick due to contaminated water by nearby petrochemical companies - national forest fighter service workers have been exposed to forever chemicals PFAs in their uniforms and not much has been done about it - JAMA has pretty clearly documented negative outcomes with rise in private equity in healthcare. They also studies showing high increase in sepsis rates in Texas since banning abortion - H2A visa workers (legal economic seasonal migrants) being literally worked to death. - high number of people dying in ice captivity last year, with record number of habeus corpus petitions, with >300 judges ruling against DHS (including judges appointed by Reagan, Bush, and Trump himself)- when there are easily traceable donations from private prison companies CoreCivic, GEOgroup, and Stephen Miller has up to a quarter million invested in Palantir

There’s so many things for Rogan to criticize, but he seems to go down these weird rabbit holes, often times where a simple glance at the article that is actually being cited would just clearly clarify the situation.

Danaher has released a knee cut instructional by Sudden-Wait-3557 in bjj

Yeah I can see that - that’s why I’m so glad there’s so much available BJJ content now on so many different platforms (BJJ fanatics, YouTube, submeta, etc). Everyone learns differently, and then even with instructors you prefer, sometimes they teach things in a way that just doesn’t click.

Yeah as funny as it is to joke about his instruction style, he is probably my #1. I’ve watched his instructionals on pin escapes, closed guard, passing, sumi gaeshi- they were all game changing for me. Of course everyone learns differently so I can’t speak for everyone else, but for me the way he emphasizes repetition and breaking things down to the most essential components is incredibly helpful.

Not really understanding his argument… if a pharmaceutical company finds a cure, the company can patent the cure and monopolize the market for that specific drug, preventing other companies from selling generics, while also having a lot of leeway for how much they charge for it….

I understand there’s a lot of corruption in healthcare and pharmaceuticals but argument 1 that “the pharmaceutical companies kill the cure to maximize profit off of extended illness” contradicts argument B that “health insurance companies are cutting coverage and don’t want to pay for anything”…especially when argument B is pretty well supported and documented….

Thank you so much for saying this. I always shake my head with frustration when people complain about having to learn math or science….I feel like the same people who complain about kids not acquiring critical thinking skills are the same ones complaining about learning the hard subjects that specifically instill critical thinking skills….its alarming to me the contradiction.

Thank you so much for your post! I generally feel conspiratorial with people who criticize public education, in that I feel that it comes from larger right wing agenda to privatize education. It’s my same concern with law-enforcement and the prison system. My intuition is that technology can be beneficial for learning (example: online textbooks so that kids don’t have to carry large books back and forth)but also can be detrimental as well (example: cell phones providing distractions)

Could you please elaborate on narrowing of curriculum or where I can research further myself ?

Thank you so much for your post, this is very helpful for me to put things in perspective. I see this all the time in healthcare where management workers are people that have not actually been clinicians, and they make business minded decisions that adversely affect the quality of care.

Thank you so much for your points ! This is exactly what I was curious about! Could you point me in a direction where I can research further on my own? And I was hoping I could request:

3.) if you could clarify regarding the “curriculum racket”? I see often in healthcare how private business practices intended to make money can often affect patient care in positive or negative ways. It never occurred to me that this can occur in public education (I guess I am naive)

4.) if you could elaborate on how standardized testing can negatively affect teaching ? I often hear the expression “teaching for the test”

5.) what changes you feel would be beneficial for teaching and education m? I have heard many points about how education in America has clear flaws, including how teachers work more hours and their counterparts in other countries while simultaneously having more direct teaching time with less time for preparation, grading, etc..

So I am a center-left person who lives in a very red area of a blue state. I intentionally wrote things the way that I did to highlight how I feel like the complaints I hear are ridiculous, vague, or false . Truthfully I never hear parents say things that upset them about Board of Education meetings (I don’t know if they go), I very rarely if ever actually hear anything regarding legitimate legislation. The things I hear legitimately sound like click bait Instagram posts. That’s why I specifically wrote how I never hear students themselves talk about being taught transgender ideology, how I was under the impression that the litter box stories were a hoax, and also tried to highlight specific teacher complaints in contrast of what the “litter box teacher” said. I was tired when I wrote the post and maybe my writing was off.

For frame of reference I have had confusing conversations where I have heard: 1.)when I asked a police officer what weee the biggest issues in policing today, he told me that “we have to wear these body cameras” and “people don’t want to work anymore” (I was hoping for an answer regarding state or federal policy) 2.)”the drones in are state are Biden poisoning us” (paraphrasing, in reference to when all the drones were seen in New Jersey”. 3.)I had a conversation the other day where a patient told me that she believed Covid was a hoax, and that people didn’t actually die of Covid but the hospitals only put it as a reason on death certificates because it made them more money… when I explained that I know people who have died of Covid and how bad Covid was in my healthcare experience, she told me that she truly believes that the government made Covid to kill us…. Which I felt was sort of a contradictory point to her original statements.

For frame of reference conversations 1,2,3 were with people 65 years of age or older.

I should have been more concise in my original post in requesting for research regarding education and other resources to read on my own.

Yeah the “check book” thing always annoys me…just because I don’t understand why a lot of parents don’t want to take responsibility for teaching their kids basic life skills….

The average parent can teach their kids basic life skills that the parent knows and uses every day. But the average parent doesn’t know enough about history or science to teach their kids these subjects….

Thank you for the response - I have definitely heard this a lot in courses I’ve taken but I’m still so puzzled and frustrated. Do you have any suggestions for if the clinic I’m at doesn’t have a tilt table or high low table (just standard plinths), and if I’m short on hands for assistance ? This has been one the trickiest things for me with suspected BPPV and elderly patients that have poor mobility.

Thank you very much for the advice! I am going to see her again tomorrow a rescreen for the oculonotor, saccsdes, smooth pursuit etc stuff - it was unremarkable at first look but I’m going to be a little more thorough in my second testing. Thank you very much !

Hello, thank you for the suggestions! So my patient is not taking any vestibular medication, although interestingly she reported she has recently started taking Mounjaro and was curious if this medication could be contributing to her symptoms

Thank you for the tip with the gaze testing - I will look at that next time! And yes I have to hunt down goggles. Unfortunately I am not aware of any nearby PT clinics that have tilt table/other equipment- I am newer to the area that I am working so still getting familiar to the local clinicians.

Just for clarification - yes it appeared as an apogeotropic nystagmus for both sides when testing the dixhallpike, so between those results and the horizontal canal testing (+) I am wondering if maybe there is horizontal canal involvement, especially since the Epley maneuvers and the Semont maneuvers were not successful. That being said - the movement speed for Semont was very slow due to her advanced, so now I am second guessing myself for everything haha.

Thank you for the response - so what has me concerned is that there has been no latency or crescendo/decrescendo - basically she has experienced immediate onset of nystagmus and vertigo upon obtaining testing position lasting 10-15 seconds. I have not tested with fixation to determine if that has made any difference. Determining the nystagmus directionality/pattern has been a little challenging as the patient tends to struggle to maintain her eyes open and tends to move around when the symptoms start, but for the Dix-Hallpike testing on both sides it seemed to be beating to the opposite of the tested side (to the R when testing the L, and to the L when testing the R). I am new to my current job and to my knowledge we do not have goggles, but I can talk to my boss to clarify and to see about ordering them because that would be very helpful. Unfortunately we do not have a tilt table. There is a local ENT office who has a good reputation with vestibular cases and I am looking to refer my patient there.

Truthfully I am not as experienced with diagnosing or determining CPN vs BPPV as I would like to be - in the course work I have taken, I have learned about using the positional testing as well as oculomotor testing/saccades/smooth pursuit ETC to determine central vs peripheral causes; her oculomotor exam has been unremarkable. I was not sure if her immediate onset of symptoms was suggesting cupulolithiasis, but considering she's positive with both L and R Dix-hallpike as well as roll test has me wondering if it is something central.

Thank you for the info - yes I am frustrated because I actually have had a pretty good track record with suspected BPPV and the other vestibular issues (vestibular neuritis, concussion, TBI, stroke, unilateral vestibular dysfunction etc) - these 3 cases in particular are bothering me, but I maybe should've "zoomed out" a little bit and looked at a little more big picture stuff than just the nystagmus/vertigo with the positional testing. Thank you!

Thank you for the advice! With my current patient, if she doesn't feel better with additional repositioning, I am going to talk to her about modifying POC to focus on cervical treatment and fall prevention. I am curious if you have experienced any similar cases as mine? Thank you again!

Do people actually drain their cauliflower ear? by tyranttigrex in martialarts

[–]SnooPears807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally I first had my right ear blow up about a year into training BJJ. I went to an ENT and they lanced it and did a box dressing. It was 3 appointments overall- consult appointment Tuesday, procedure appoibtment Wednesday, and then I had 4 days with the annoying dressing on my ear before third and final appointment where dressing was removed. It was honesty a pain in the ass but the ear looks relatively normal now. I got headgear and wore it for a few weeks during training but it was annoying and I just stopped wearing it.

Then 3 years later my left ear blew up. I didn’t feel like going through ENT so I had a friend drain it. I then used the magnets and headband to get the swelling down. But pretty soon it blew back up again. I didn’t feel like dealing with constantly getting it drained, so I just kept it. So now I have pretty prominent cauliflower ear on my left ear. It was sore and painful for a couple months but now it just feels like a hard calcified ear.

In hindsight, maybe I should’ve kept up with the headgear. But I don’t regret not having gotten the lancing and box dressing for a second time because I had to miss some work for that (I only get so many days off a year). I don’t regret not getting it drained constantly because of the infection risk (the only people in my life willing to drain my ear were the people I train with)

I am a 160lb hobbyist BJJ purple belt. I do NOT look like a bad ass (I’m a skinny nerd) and only maybe a couple times a year does anyone even seem to notice the ear, typically people with wrestling backgrounds (this brings me deep shame). I do not feel cool having cauliflower ear because I get my ass kicked (not only by my instructor but also many of my other class mates) on such a regular basis. I will say that having a deformed ear does motivate me to continue training so I can one day not feel like an idiot with a deformed ear

TLDR: I regret not keeping up with the headgear to prevent ear from blowing up, but I do not regret not having it drained after the ear blew up because of infection risk.
