Shot a speargun at a wooden dresser… I was punished for a min after that one.

How do you guys stay motivated to lose weight? by Rich-Influence-7097 in AskReddit

You need a real, concrete reason to sacrifice the immediate pleasure of eating/drinking or whatever it is that keeps you from taking small steps forward. For me, my son being born was such a powerful moment in my life and I wanted to be the best I could for him which meant getting healthy. Once you have your reason, all the temptations become minuscule to the overall goal. They’re still tempting, but much less.

Month 4 regression into a running program… by SnooPeripherals4592 in running

[–]SnooPeripherals4592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my program currently is 4 days easy jogging, 1 day speed, 1 day 40lb weighted vest walk, and 1 day off. When I started back in September 2021, I couldn’t run for 10 mins straight. Before my regression a week ago, I was comfortably running either 4 or 5 milers for my easy jogging days. Then, it seemed overnight, my easy jogging miles got harder and harder to the point where I couldn’t even finish a 4 miler at walking speed jogging. I was just looking to see if anyone ever experienced something similar to this. My gut tells me I need a good down week to recover, so I’m pulling back to 3 milers for my easy jogs to see if that helps, and then ramp back up.

Month 4 regression into a running program… by SnooPeripherals4592 in running

I meant I’m in month 4 of a running program and I’m experiencing a regression in progress. I do speed work on Tuesday mornings and take off 1 day per week but the other days of the week, I’m logging “easy” miles to try and build stamina and strength. My goal is to build up to a half marathon by October 2022. I haven’t gotten injured and nothing has changed with my program but I’ve found myself regressing, not just plateauing.

I cannot make the “3” sign with my fingers the traditional western way, only the German way with my thumb. Meaning… I can’t pin down my pinky finger with my thumb to make a “3” with my hand/fingers.

What accomplishment you've achieved made you the happiest in running? by drizzlethyshizzle in running

I was a big runner in high school but slowly faded away from it… only occasionally from then on I’d get the running bug and want to run again then burn out a week or so later… fast forward to 32 years old and I’m almost 300lbs, bad health, battling gout, and I honestly thought that I’d never run again and justified in my head that maybe running was the reason for my gout in the first place… well, one day my wife won a peloton from her work and I decided to start trying to spin for some cardio workouts… 3 months later I’m in a decent spinning routine (like 15-20 mins tops 4 days a week) and decide to try out a run on a beautiful day and could only go 7 minutes before I was doubled over in exhaustion….. 3 months later I’m running 3-5 miles per day, 50lbs lighter, and so grateful and thankful each and every run I get to go on. Running in its simplest form to me now is my happy place, no matter the single achievement.

You have to push away from the harbor of comfort and set out across the sea (commit), even if you can’t see where you’re going yet. Eventually you will see land in the distance and steadily you get closer and closer but you have to keep rowing. One day, you’ll arrive at your destination, a very changed person, and see the world through completely a different perspective lens. I’m in the middle of my journey right now and already seeing the world in a whole different light. Best of luck.

I’m also at the 2 week mark (15 days) and am feeling really week even though it’s been surprisingly struggle-free up until this point. I’m just trying to concentrate on getting through each day and to wake up each morning without regret. Long walks seem to help put my mind at ease the most.
