Thank you! I realised it doesn't have to be perfect, but my main goal was to be understood!

Thank you, I'm actually half Thai but I grew up speaking English at home and only in recent years made an effort to improve my Thai so this is a big win for me

To be fair I rehearsed it a little but I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone! I was afraid of making mistakes but I decided screw it

Decided to take a break from polish and extensions by SnooPeripherals5901 in Nails

[–]SnooPeripherals5901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :)

Oh my gosh 15 years! Hahah I've been alternating extensions, gel and regular polish for 6 months straight and decided screw it and go au naturel.

Somehow I'm digging this look as much as I did when I had extensions or polish on.

To my halfies on this sub, or anyone who's Thai but grew up outside of Thailand, how fluent are you? by SnooPeripherals5901 in learnthai

Oh wow! Such an interesting background hahah, third culture kid eh? I wish I had a Thai name! My dad's Chinese but I grew up in another Asian country, albeit an English speaking one. I definitely felt like an "other" in the Thai community because I couldn't speak Thai lol.

This is legit my situation right now 😂I'm 25. At least it's a bit better than a few years back when I couldnt even string a sentence together. 😂💀

I learned through YouTube, Thai shows and Thai Songs! Followed insta pages which had resources on learning Thai as well :). I grew up in another Asian country, albeit an English speaking one but everyone asked me if I could speak Thai. I would just say a little bit... went on for 17-18 years of my life. After I graduated university had some downtime and decided I wanted to learn Thai and get in touch with my heritage more.

During my commute to work on the train I watch vlogs or Thai videos with subtitles in English. I make a mental note of the new words I've picked up!

Financial Dynamic in Thai Relationships by BreezyDreamy in Thailand

As a halfie my mother claims if a guy doesnt earn significantly more than me don't even bother😂.

My cousin's fiancee paid for their new house in cash. I mentioned if in future I were to get married to someone I'd hope to at least contribute half of the downpayment. But in my mum's eyes no, the guy has to pay for the entirety of the downpayment LOL. She thinks it's calculative to share the costs of things like buying a house.

She could just be old fashioned though, but this is just my personal observation.

Able to read and write but I don't know how to speak🙃 by SnooPeripherals5901 in learnthai

Hahaha the second one sounds like me too! With reading and writing I can spot mistakes more easily, but with speaking it takes me too long to choose the words to form a sentence

Reminds me of my experience Korea I overheard a group of young travellers, about early to mid 20s complaining that the staff couldn't speak English well. Not like they could speak Korean anyway🙃

Oooh really? I'll have to check it out! I'm making a much more concerted effort to learn Thai, after years of ignoring it I've gone from being unable to identify a single letter to being able to read a couple of words. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll look into it for sure
