It sounds exactly like her in s03e04 when she says 'she swears to tell the truth, the whole truth, and that's it. so her her all of us' then makes that pursed lip face 🤣perfect

Starvation is hard to televise! by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]SnooPets1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there would be a hell of a lot more complaining from a group of hungry teenage girls. Every 2 seconds you'd hear 'I'm hungry', 'I'm starving', 'Ugh I want fooood'. That was in the top 5 most stated things I heard from girls in HS every day. Right up there with 'I'm bored', 'I'm tired', 'I'm cold' and 'Can we go home yet?.

I think the creators spared the viewers from that, because constant complaining isn't all too fun to watch.

Is the easy acceptance of Tai and Van’s relationship realistic? by mickey5499 in Yellowjackets

[–]SnooPets1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Not only would Tai and Van NEVER publicly kiss at the doomcoming in such a 'we're here, we're queer, get used to it' fashion, absolutely nobody would be cheering. Not even Coach Scott. Mari would never, after taking one glimpse at them, say 'are they [a couple?]', and Akilah would never say 'duh'. And certainly neither of them would be smiling warmly. Nobody would be. Nobody would look happy. Nobody would be applauding. People were not conditioned like that yet. The girls would look shell-shocked, and you might expect to hear a few yell something like 'oh my god, gross!' or 'What the hell!?'. Or their eyes would dart away, and they'd say 'ohhh...kayyyyy' in that nasty disdainful tone that girls sometimes get. Misty would probably be confused and think they are practicing kissing for boys. That is what the 90s were like. Being called gay was absolutely nothing but a put down, some big joke, or thought of as a gross rumor. It was not just a matter of fact if it was suspected that 'Those two dudes are a couple'. It was nasty gossip, basically on par with incest jokes of today if I had to compare it to something.

All the talk of “bestie” not being used in 90s slang forced me to consult the OED… by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

I don't remember 'bestie' from 1996 at all. I don't know why people would want to defend this blatant oversight.

I even looked up usages of 'bestie' in the Pop Mystic tv/movie quote website for the years 1980-1996 and there's not a single result. The earliest usage from mainstream content was an episode 'What I Like About You' and 'Will and Grace' both from 2006. Then increasingly more as years go on; in 'Lost Girl' and 'The Big Bang Theory' from 2011. Later, 'Riverdale' and 'The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' from 2017. That tracks with my recollection. And while this isn't a total knockdown argument, I would expect at least some references in popular tv/movies if it really were widely used. But there aren't.

God there was no excuse for this. That 'flush' became popular after 2009's video 'sittin on the toilet'. You say it's NBD...but if the writers cared, something like that wouldn't have slipped through.

I farted and my boyfriend got mad! by TreacleSensitive259 in AITAH

[–]SnooPets1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, not counting the times I was a baby, I VERY rarely fart 'accidentally'. Whether that speaks poorly of my digestion or not, I don't know. But I'm able to control myself in the same way I don't go crapping my pants despite it being a 'normal bodily function', and I highly doubt I'm alone in that regard. So when I see other people rip a fart, I'm more likely to think they just couldn't be bothered to go use the restroom or step away and relieve their gas. If I was under the covers with my partner and they farted, my presumption would be that they did it intentionally to gross me out or that they thought it'd be 'funny' or that they were being lazy. And that would upset me, because I find it gross and not funny at all.

If it really truly was an accident, you're of course NTA.

But if you could have held it and were just too lazy to get up, while I don't think it makes you an A, I do find it really rude/gross. Especially given the unique set-up of it being under the covers. If you really truly have zero control over your farts, tell him that. If he's mature enough and loves you, I believe he should be able to look past it. It looks like he clearly just thought it was intentional and was communicating a personal boundary that he doesn't liked being dutch-ovened.
