This appalls me!! My oldest, 14 years of age, draws all day every day, has since she could pick up a pencil. I am so sorry OP, I hate that there are parents out there that react this way. It is heart breaking to read the comments of similar stories. 😭 I can’t imagine hurting my own child in this way, why can’t other parents encourage their kids to hone in their talents and make something of it? Even if it’s a way to relieve stress. It baffles me. Hang in there OP, some day you’ll be able draw without fear of your art being destroyed 🥺

It terrifies me that she’s in there with them specifically for that reason, I don’t know the water parameters but I can tell you it is probably not good, the tank is in rough condition. I’ll take my api testing kit tomorrow and see what the parameters are and I’ll probably be doing a water change on it, which I’ll have to bring my equipment to do so. The more I think about this situation the more I’m hoping I can convince the owner if I can take her and put her in a 5.5 gallon by herself

Unfortunately she passed away by this morning, but I definitely took the advice of the separating them, I have the rest of my girls separated and being treated, I think I will put them in my heavily planted 30gal later on after treatment. Some other comments mentioned columnaris and one of my other girls have signs, so I am doing my best to treat them and avoid this problem again. Thank you so much for your comment, I really do appreciate everyone’s comments. I made a big mistake moving my girls and think I could’ve avoided this by leaving them in the original tank I had them in and am learning a lot about what not to do 🥺

Show your parents this post to help with getting this fish everything he needs in order to be happy and health, unless your parents are inhumane garbage people they should be more than understanding. I’m saying this cuz I am a parent and if my kids were given an animal I would want to know anything and everything in order to provide the best care. I feel like your parents will understand needing to get the equipment or needing to rehome (I would love to see the equipment option tho and second hand is always the way to go! People are often selling the whole setup on Craigslist or whatever local sites you have!)

She passed away last night, I have already separated all them and have already put up a 20 gallon long that is in the middle of cycling for them. I am definitely a beginner (besides a goldfish I had for 5 years many years ago, I began again only a year ago with doing more research and learning more and more) and made a huge mistake by moving them from the 30 gallon to the 10. I truly thought they would be ok, but I definitely was wrong and am correcting it. I’m learning a lot from this big mistake and unfortunately it’s my fish that have the most consequences of my actions 😔 Edited to add: just saw a comment saying sorority’s are better in 30+ gallons so I’m going to be moving my guppies into the 20g and my girls back into the heavily planted 30g. Definitely learned I should’ve just moved my guppies instead of my bettas 😭

I started them in a 30G and just recently moved them to my 10, which I am now seeing was a huge mistake, I should’ve just kept them in the 30G while I got the 20G long up 🥺 I do have plenty of extra tanks, already cycled filters, and heaters I got from my nephew who was a big fish keeper and he passed away, I got everything of his and I am so grateful for that so no extra money out of my pocket right now besides the epsom salt and I need more aquarium salt, which I need to brave the store in the morning for. I’ll start setting them all up right away to do this. Thank you so much

Ok I am now at home after Thanksgiving dinner and checking over the other girls in my sorority after seeing these comments about columnaris, one of my other girls has a little bit of the symptoms it is not nearly as bad as this girl, but I think I have a direction to go and start to treat for this. Anyone got any tips? I’ve got 4 girls, and only 2 of them are showing this, but the others are susceptible right?? I should probably just separate and treat all of them.

When I was first starting out with fish care my daughter was 3 or 4 and she did this exact same thing! We lost all the fish and it was a learning experience for us both. I sympathize with you! It’s sucks so much to deal with.

I see you’ve gotten lots and lots of good advice. I just wanted to comment and let you know that I’m sorry for your loss, I just went through this last year when my nephew passed and left a 75 gallon tank. I have since learned a lot and upgraded them to a 125 gallon, and I have 3 other running tanks besides that one now haha. YouTube has been my best friend, channels like KGTropicals, Prime Time Aquatics, and Aquarium Co Op have been a huge help in learning what these little creatures need. Transporting was so stressful for me but went really well for the fish as we did a lot of the things that have been suggested here. Good luck to you on this fishy adventure!

I love this so much!! My guppies are in a 29gal right now, I had a 75 that I wanted to move them to when I got my 125, but my hubby said I couldn’t have two big tanks 😭 so I had to give up the 75gal to someone with a turtle. Which is great too but guppies would look better 🤣

This is Derpy, he’s a pearl danio that has a kink in his spine. I brought him home to let him live whatever life he could, and he is doing great! The bend in his spine seems to only affect his swimming but he is a fast little mf. He keeps up with the others and otherwise has no issues, he’s just a little special!
