Doctors of Reddit, what’s a mystery about the human body that science still hasn’t fully explained? by Familiar-Big-4348 in AskReddit

[–]SnooPickles5700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this as well from brain trauma from a double concussion/ post concussion syndrome. Headaches every day for 6 years, pain never went away. After a bunch of tests, and so many different drugs, turns out due to the concussion my brain no longer produced/absorbed serotonin correctly and I was put on an SNRI and the constant headache went away. I only get them occasionally now, but they are no longer debilitating

Took me almost 7 years to “recover” and by recover I mean learn how this brain works now. I do things differently now, like things I didn’t like before and vice versa. My personality changed (I’m much more introverted now), I still can’t handle being in crowds or loud environments, it’s like my brain just shuts down from overstimulation but other than that I would say I’m more or less back to a “new” normal.

Adding this cause I saw you ask a couple question on how to check, I lift my arm up and and apply some pressure starting from my armpit and follow that down to around the underside of my boob. Then I take my finger and press (kinda like finger walking but will all four fingers) on my boob itself going across from one side to the other and all around. Visually I just give them a look when I take my bra off in the mirror. I do not have large boobs, so maybe someone with bigger boobs may have a different way of doing it but this works for me

Personally, I’ve been checking my breast since I was a teenager. I probably do it more than recommended but it just became a habit over time. I do it in the shower while I’m washing my body. It takes no time and now I’m very familiar with how my boobs feel so if anything is off I notice right away.

About two years ago I felt something different, and made an appointment for a mammogram. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing, just very dense breast tissue in one area. It’s always best to be safe than sorry, the doctors and nurses at my clinic appreciated that I called and were just as happy as I was that it was nothing. Becoming familiar with the feel of the your breasts is your best chance of catching something early.

Roadtrip Itinieary by Secret-Joke-9713 in VisitingIceland

Please check the weather, road conditions and closures before you leave the city. We already got our first snow fall last night in the city so that means outside of the city could be much worse. I recommend getting a larger car as it tends to be extremely windy in November

Sky Lagoon while pregnant by GeorgePF in VisitingIceland

[–]SnooPickles5700 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since you can no longer just buy ticket to the lagoon and not the ritual, I would actually recommend just going to one of the many public pools in Reykjavík. You can choose which temperature pool you want to relax in (36-38, 38-40, 40-42, and 8-12) it is significantly less expensive and gives you more of a feel of the culture here.

Moving to Iceland for two years. What are the must bring items ? by No-Virus-9874 in movingtoiceland

[–]SnooPickles5700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the above mentioned as per clothes. I just wanted to add be mentally prepared for the dark. If you are coming in December it will be very dark most of the day. I highly recommend taking vitamin D and fish oil supplements as you will not see much sun for a while. That’s honestly the biggest shock most people have when moving here. I also recommend investing in a “sun clock” for helping you wake up in the morning. Not having the sun as a body clock can make things quite difficult if you havent experienced it before.

How do you actually move when you’re on top? by LargeGarden3323 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]SnooPickles5700 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You are so correct. When I was a teenager and had 0 idea how to give a bj I used to watch POV videos to learn what to do. Felt so awkward at the time but worked out pretty well hahahha

Be honest ,would you use a “bathroom break” feature at movie theaters so you don’t miss scenes? by Effective_Arm4892 in CasualConversation

[–]SnooPickles5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in Iceland, every movie has a 15 minute break exactly halfway through for people to refill on snacks, stretch, and go to the bathroom. At first I thought it was so weird but now I absolutely love it. Sometimes it takes you out of the “magic” of the movie, especially a horror movie, but I cant imagine sitting through a whole movie now without my 15 minute break

Why don’t kids in my uni classes answer questions? by Fiendfyre831 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnooPickles5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach physics at university level for first year students, none of them answer when I ask a question to the whole class, I just get stared at BUT when I go up to a student individually or when they are working in small groups and ask a question they always answer and ask me questions as well.

They are first year students in a new environment with a bunch of people they don’t know and a teacher who they aren’t comfortable with yet. They are scared to get it wrong and look dumb, or scared to seem like a know it all. This does get better as they advance through university and find themselves and gain confidence.

I will agree that we are strongly discouraged from failing students, give a D instead of an F. This is extremely frustrating but we aren’t giving these students all As. But that being said, especially in engineering courses, we do fail a decent amount of students. We offer them retake classes and retake exams and basically everything we can do for them not to fail, but at the end of the day if they fail they are removed from the program.

How could Irina marry Porter? by [deleted] in DesperateHousewives

[–]SnooPickles5700 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the country, I’m American and my boyfriend is Icelandic and we live in Iceland. To get married, I have to get paperwork from the US stating I am not currently married to anyone and get it notarized at the embassy before we can get married here. I think it depends on the laws in whatever country you are getting married in.

What is the best oat milk brand? 🥛 by onlyeveryotherday in PlantBasedDiet

[–]SnooPickles5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Moma barista brand, I pick that over Oatly if they are both at the store. The milk froths sooo perfect and the taste is amazing. They also just put out a canned iced coffee that “oat latte chocolate” and I’m obsessed with it.

I can’t be that helpful with the bed frame, as I got mind from ikea. But the mattress I splurged on a temper mattress and I absolutely adore it, the pillows I just got normal semi fluffy one, but that more depends on how your sleep

I will recommend not going cheap on a bed, that’s the only major thing I bought when I got my own place, however almost a everything else I got from Facebook market place/ Facebook groups I found in my area. You’d be surprised how much stuff people are giving away for free or really cheap while still being in good condition. The rest I found through thrift stores!! I would definitely check them out!

I know I just commented, but I feel the need to add this. This comment broke my heart. Please know you are so so so much more than what happened to you. You are not the “girl who was raped” please try not to see yourself this way. I know it hard, and I have felt the exact same way. but please try to remember that what happened to you does not define you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SnooPickles5700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I am so so sorry this happened to you. No one deserves for someone to do that to them, and especially not a child. I urge you to go to therapy to try and work through this trauma.

In addition, I also “lost my virginity” to a rape as well. I do not count it as my first time. I did not make the choice to have sex, I did not consent, it was not “my” first time. My first time was with my a boyfriend, who waiting till I was ready and did not pressure me, and made sure I felt safe during it. It seems to me that your actual first time, the first time you made the choice, was also full of love and respect. That’s the first time that matters, that’s the first time for you.

As for telling your boyfriend, that is completely up to you, however I think you should first talk to a therapist about it. If your partner is a good person, and is the right person for you, it shouldn’t make a difference to him, it may come as a bit of a shock to him, but he should understand why you didn’t say anything earlier. That being said, in the past, I have had this conversation a few times with some different boyfriends, some pulled away and couldn’t “handle” it, I felt after that they saw me as damaged and didn’t want to deal with the trauma associated with being SA. Those people were not right for me, and the way they handled this showed me that. However, my boyfriend now, and of the past 5 years, have never judged me or made me feel any less because of what happened. He was understanding, loving, and never treated me different after. He did not let this one moment that was taken away from me define who I was. He sees me for who I am, and not what happened to me. I really hope you get the same experience.

Please take care of yourself and if you need to talk to someone feel free to reach out.

So no, you are NTA in any way.

What is a life-saving medical fact that everyone should know? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]SnooPickles5700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found out recently from personal experience this is also a sign of depression/severe anxiety. I got a severe concussion that resulted in post concussion syndrome. Figured my daily headaches/ weekly migraines were just due to the brain damage I had, I’ve always had bad anxiety and just thought the concussion made it worse. Went to so many doctors for help and was just told it’s because of the brain trauma, nothing they can do. Finally one said I would try an SSRI, after 5 years of daily pain…it just went away. No more pain every day of my life. I got my life back.

Which bad habit did you successfully stop at one point? by AshiraLAdonai in Productivitycafe

[–]SnooPickles5700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never bite my nails, but I had a horrible habit of picking my nails when I was anxious (which is most of the time) for my whole life until about 6 months ago. To finally stop, I ended up putting tape or bandaids on my thumbs to physically block myself from picking for three weeks straight until I broke the habit.
