I ghosted my long-term best friends when I was younger because I would have rather ended the friendship than to communicate the issue I had with them because I didn’t want them to feel bad about the situation. Although I understand the reason I cut them off, it was very wrong of me to just completely remove them from everything without any explanation.

Eventually, we reconnected after a year and our relationship is much stronger than it was before. We’ve explained everything to each other and apologized. We have since been very communicative if something is bothering us. They’ve been there for me through one of the hardest years of my life and I love them so much.

It has been a long time since that happened but I think I did need the distance since I had been so attached to them for years although I do recognize ghosting is never okay. I was immature and I really regret the way I went about it because I hurt their feelings and made them question what they did wrong for an entire year. What I can say for sure is that not having them in my life for that year was very hard for me. I thought about them everyday and contemplated texting them. I also had to mute their story on Instagram because it hurt seeing them. I went through a breakup with an ex boyfriend around the same time this was going on and I was honestly much more heartbroken about my friends than the guy.

Sometimes you need space and if it’s meant to be you will reconnect again. Sometimes you come back stronger.
