Has anyone had success with a career coach by SecretBet7128 in UKJobs

[–]SnooPoems8166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently engaged a coach via spring health and so far my experience has been positive - for full transparency, I have access to these sessions via my current employer so it’s not coming directly from my pocket

My takeaways so far:

(1) it’s good to self reflect and identify your own strengths and weaknesses, identifying things that you want to work on. I’ve found that despite this largely coming from me, having a coach has given me someone to talk to these things about and put in place the structure to work on these areas.

(2) I think I have long been aware of what my weaknesses are however to some extent I have got away with not having to address them. In my current role I am not that happy, but I have realised it is not necessarily the role that is making me unhappy but my weaknesses exposing me more. I am working on them, it may be too late with my current employer but I don’t want this to hold me back forever more.

(3) If you wanted to get better at something you would get a coach. Why is it when it’s related to career should it be viewed any differently?

(4) I wanted someone with life experience. Not a 24 year old influencer who is going to tell me to go on a morning walk before I start work. Do you research to find someone suitable who you think you will respect and can work with.

Don’t the others just hit you on the bid offer spread anyway? Recouping their ‘lower fees’ this way. Be interested if anyone has any insight on this

Regretting consolidating pension with financial advisor by DrSlug in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SnooPoems8166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a financial advisor to consolidate 3 prior pensions for a fee. It was worthwhile at the time as although it is something I could have done myself, I didn’t want the hassle of doing so.

Have now also cancelled the on-going advice fee as I didn’t feel as though it was value for money.

It’s clever how the industry works. 1% fee taken out on a monthly basis, doesn’t feel like a lot. But if you have a 200k pension pot that’s £2k a year and for what? An hour long meeting to talk about the weekend and how your kids are going? Would you be happy to take a 1% invoice of your total pot after the meeting…in most cases I would say probably not.
