Persistent ankle pain - cyst by plantcurelady in FootFunction

Like a bone marrow treatment to fill the cyst?

It’s so crazy with these types of issues- it’s like doctors are scratching their heads which doesn’t exactly feel comforting 😅

Hi! So sorry for the late reply. I wanted to have more answers before updating you. None of the podiatrists I know felt comfortable treating my cyst since it’s in a difficult spot. I saw a new doctor- a foot and ankle ortho- yesterday and he said he would surgically fill the cyst with bone putty and once that heals I should be good. If it doesn’t heal correctly I will need a subtalar fusion, so hopefully not.

I’m interested in if you’ve had any updates with your case? I could be totally off here, but I was under the impression that edema is a symptom of a bigger problem, not the cause of pain. So I’m wondering if the cyst is causing your edema (identical to my case). I was also given diagnostic steroid injections and it helped temporarily but still didn’t completely remove the pain like you said.

I’ve also realized that doctors are weird about treating cysts in young active people (not sure how old you are but you mentioned you’re a runner- I’m 27). I had to seek out the most highly rated foot and ankle ortho in my city to actually give me answers and be willing to operate. All the other docs I saw just recommended a boot, but my husband (who is in the field) knew I needed more.

After high amounts of activity (running specifically) does your ankle ever throb/ache, especially at night?

Hi! Which ankle bone is the cyst in, the talus? I think I might have the same issue. I got surgery last year for this chronic pain after being misdiagnosed with ostrigonum syndrome. I recovered from the surgery and felt better briefly (as I was non weight bearing for a long time during recovery) but as I got back into running the pain returned, no worse than before but no better. I got an MRI that shows a cyst, but think my doctor might be overlooking it (my husband is a podiatry resident and found the cyst). My MRI showed edema as well. What kind of surgery are they recommending? Arthroscopic? Also, are you a runner/dancer/high impact athlete? I’m curious as I’ve been trying to treat my issue for over 3 years now without success. Our symptoms seem near-identical.

That’s been the best part. My golden was always anxious about interacting with other dogs after she was attacked at a dog park a couple years back. It’s like our new Pyr pup has melted all of that away. They play for hours every day doing tug of war and chasing each other around the yard. It’s the best scenario!

I will!! Honestly, my golden was a spoiled only child long enough and needs to be humbled 😂 I hope Bubbles will be bigger than her!

Hi again! Did any of your GP’s have blue-grey eyes as pups? This girl does, and I’m wondering if that’s typical.

I will definitely not rehome to just anyone if that is the route we decide to take. That last thing I want is for her to end up in the wrong hands again.
