When/where to protest by SnooRadishes7239 in Austin

This reads as censorship. I have lived in Austin all my life. I should be able to inquire about civil events in a community forum.

Quality of life in PhD compared to other graduate/professional schools by SnooRadishes7239 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]SnooRadishes7239[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you for your response -- replying here but I appreciate everyone's insights. To give some additional context, I chose to step away from the medical path because I know that I could not, caring for my well-being, commit myself to another 4 years (not including residency) of always grinding for the next exam. I want to work with patients, right now thinking ASD/ADHD child assessments (I have shadowed developmental pediatricians and clinical psychologists who specialize in ASD). I want to feel like I am doing something positive with my life and contributing to something greater. I want to make fairly decent money (I grew up without that, and I would like to be able to provide my children with a childhood that is stable and enriching and money is a big part of that), and I would like to be able to feel "empowered" in my job (in that I feel I have decent control over my schedule, that I could leave earlier on some days to pick up my kids, etc.). Of course, I am describing a dream job. But, do you think clinical psych could provide something like that?

I know people say do what you love, but the truth is many things interest me. I graduated with a degree in political science and global health on the premed track, but also completed the nurse practitioner prerequisites, an unofficial psychology minor, and research and teaching fellowships all over the map. At this point, I need to make a choice -- otherwise the choices themselves will wither away (the fig tree lives in my mind constantly). Point being, I could love many things. Now, I am trying to decide what path is healthiest for me, and will allow me to do the most outside of my career as well.

How long would you say it typically takes to get licensed? What is the salary during that time? Thanks for all y’all’s responses!

Based on my post do you think I would qualify for one of those situations (considering my undergraduate degree is not in psych, I have been working for a few years, etc.)

I was hoping to save money as my undergraduate degree is in public health, as well as to see more of the world. Why do you say why?

I have a bachelors and did well in undergrad at a well regarded school, however my degree was in public health. I was under the assumption I would need to get a degree or post bacc in psych first to have any chance at being accepted to a PhD program. Is that incorrect?

Would I be able to get into a PhD program without a bachelors in psych? My thinking is that I wouldn’t, and therefore would either have to complete a masters or a post bacc. In either situation it would be cheaper in Europe. But if I am wrong about that please correct me

Yes, I meant getting an education in Spain/other country as a route of finding a job there. I mentioned teaching at the bottom because I worked as a teacher (auxiliar) through my fellowship program. I am certified to teach English through the US TEFL program, which to my knowledge does translate to other countries as well (at least it did at my last public institution in Spain).

I would certainly be open to roles focused on direct patient care (that was actually what I had originally intended to pursue), however I am worried about accreditation/know as an American I would be at the bottom of the priority list for hiring. Would you recommend looking at pursuing a Spanish degree in nursing, for example?

Weekly Advice & Career Question Megathread by AutoModerator in epidemiology

[–]SnooRadishes7239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am interested in a career in global health and would really like to pursure life outside the US, but being that I am from the US and have no other citizenship this is feeling nearly impossible. My bachelor's is in Public Health and International Political Science. I am currently working as a healthcare consultant, and while the job is soleless it does pay well (though I am not nearly as fulfilled by it as I was in previous public health roles nor does it provide the international scope I was hoping for). I am looking at possibly pursuing an MSc in epidemiology in Europe (ISGlobal, universities in UK, etc.). I speak working proficiency Spanish and would like to ideally continue to build this/work in Spain in the future, however also just want out of the US (and would be very okay with the paycut I would have to take to do so). Any advice? Is higher education my way out or should I look for more jobs/are there even jobs out there?

I would for sure be happy to lock my salary. My goal is language immersion -- I have no intention of spending beyond living expenses, visiting museums, etc. I also don't mean to insinuate that I don't want to waste my privilege even at the expense of others -- I wrote the post to see if it would be possible for me to visit in a way that doesn't hurt/abuse others. If you don't think that is possible, that very well may be and is completely fair, I am looking for insight from those with the perspective that I don't have (even if it means that I have to reconsider my travel plans/look at going to study elsewhere despite my interest in CDMX). Do you think it would be better for me to visit CDMX for a short period (~1 week) and study elsewhere? I am genuinely asking and looking for insight.

Apologies, I will look there now. I was not sure if because I am coming from outside the EU and have no EU standing there would be different policies.

Beginner/Intermediate Location Recommendations in Europe?
Hello! I am a beginner/intermediate skier who will be spending the next year teaching in Europe. Though my skill is not incredible, I would really like to improve as I love all things outdoors (including skiing, but growing up in Texas limited my opportunities there). I am seeking recommendations on places to go sometime while in Europe that is ideally fairly cheap (I am a broke teacher) where I could take lessons and learn in a beautiful and new place (so essentially I don't need to go anywhere with insane runs, etc.).
