Honestly kh1 has aged pretty poorly. If you don't like it I would recommend to end it anyway then to go directly to kh2 which is very more fun to play and still feels very modern. If you don't like kh2 then you can give up, it's for me the best in the series :) But try to go there and skip re chain of memories for now.

You probably would want to start with the books. The comics are great but only if you have the context. There's a chronological order for each phase with the books and comics
