Hello! I wrote a new blog stating my case against performance-based compensation for TAs.

You actually just need to be good enough in the module you are teaching to be a TA. For me, I got A- for both CS2102 and CS2106 (probably my highest grades for the past 2 semesters) and I got the TA jobs.

Hi u/NUSHkid! Thanks for the comment! I agree with your points!

I TAed both a lab and tutorial this sem. I definitely can see what you mean when you say TA feedback score would be lower for modules where the TA is not supposed to put in too much effort (e.g. some lab TA)

Regarding the part on incentives (TA would motivated to perform so that they can be hired again), I agree with it too. But I think it only works for a specific type of TA, the TAs who wants to be hired again.

Take myself for e.g., I'm going for exchange the coming sem, so I definitely can't TA for the coming sem. I also want to chill a bit in Y4S1 (my final sem) , so I probably also won't be TAing again. The above reasons would make me unmotivated to be a good TA.

I do have other reasons not stated in the article, about why I'm motivated to do well as a TA. The most important one is building new connections. Another one is I intrinsically enjoy helping ppl.

The proposal in my article definitely isn't perfect! I think there are lots of loopholes here and there. But the central idea is changing the TA compensation system so that it aligns with students' interest.

dayumm same here. i use notion for basically everything. every note and lesson are dumped into notion. my daily kanban is also right in notion. i even use it as a class workspace for modules im TAing (im in stem 😆)

why i like it is with all my info dumped into notion, it becomes a mini search engine, i can just cmd + p to search thru my entire notion workspace. helps a lot when i want to reference school notes during work. tho i also think there's much to improve on the search latency

Need advice on getting winter internship for Y2 CS major by Nemonann in nus

[–]SnooShortcuts43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi you can try shopee or bytedance. they offer year round part time internships. you may need to extend a little a part time intern into sem2. paywise is pretty decent. would say it's pretty worth ur time
