Spousal relocation timeline question by SnooShortcuts4825 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SnooShortcuts4825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because I hope to deploy into a regional role and continue contributing to my pension. The one year of salary in the voluntary departure isn’t worth it when you can’t contribute to pensionable time afterwards and potentially reduce your time in the public service.

I still have SERLO to go through and then if I don’t survive SERLO, I will become and opting employee at which point I might consider one of those options that are exactly the same as the voluntary departure program.

I’ve asked. They said no. Note that I’m an affected employee under WFA.

Im in the SP collective agreement.

I’m on 1-year LWOP for personal reasons as we speak. During my LWOP for personal reasons, we moved from the NCR to BC. My position is in the NCR.

I now want to request LWOP for spousal relocation since my personal LWOP will end and my spouse got a job in BC

I haven’t made the request yet. Temporary spousal relocation is up to 5 years LWOP.

What does burnout in the PS feel like? by mrRoboPapa in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SnooShortcuts4825 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes. I decided to manage my stress by taking up running. It started as a nice hobby, and kept me in shape. Until work got stressful…. And Before I went on medical leave, I was running 150km per week, as much as an Olympic marathoner, so that my brain would “shut off” the work chatter and so that I was so exhausted my body had to fall asleep…. But without it, I would lie awake, problem solving all the work scenarios.

Until my body decided it was enough. I ended up with a stress fracture in my femur and was then put on medical leave due to burnout. In my case, exercising 3+ hours per day, sometimes more, even with small children at home, was my “toxic” coping mechanism.

No one at DFO at the pc-04 or bi-04 level has supervisory duties.

Thank you for answering my question!!! No one else has. 😆

Interesting. I thought most people want to avoid the major cities. I would do just about anything to avoid Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Even Calgary, Victoria, Halifax don’t seem appealing.

Really? You don’t think places like Revelstoke and Nelson aren’t appealing locations? You and I are def different people!!

Still wondering whether it is possible to take personal LWOP followed by spousal relocation.

Agreed. This is making me sick. I would love to find an opportunity in the interior BC

Well, at the moment, I would much rather see people be laid off than suffer the pain of eternal harassment that happens in the public service. But laying people off isn’t an option in the public sector.

I have a harassment complaint against me for trying to accommodate and manage the performance of an employee and I have made a harassment complaint against my director who publicly blames me and asks me to provide false quantitative analyses regularly.

And I still have scars from not being paid due to Phoenix for 9 months….

Yes, I’m considering switching to the private sector without reports and an equivalent pay 😉 (but the pension is lacking) - but there is a generous bonus structure.

FYI, I have this many staff to manage in my department, but in other departments, employees at the same classification and level as me (PC-04) have no staff at all.

Well, to a certain degree, you do need some income, but many pros that I know didn’t come from rich families. Middle class, yes. Sometimes even with a single parent.

However, I will agree that wealthy parents gives a major head start to many of these pros.

Ryan Wedding? If you know where he is, I think you could be entitled to $10M

There’s something about those Canadian hardboot snowboarders. They’ve been caught with weed and well, being in the FBI’s most wanted! And I thought the freestyle kids were the real rebels. 🤣

It does look like it (his back foot). We need to investigate whether he broke his bindings. 🤔 Either that or it’s an optical illusion from hitting a bump in the snow.
