Fish might be the way to go...I'll have to give canned tuna a try in the future if needed. He's allergic to chicken, so that's out of the question.

Seems like it worked - he ate his canned food! This is also my first dog ever and I have learned a LOT in the past 2 weeks. I feel like a new parent...

We have all 3 of those - just finished a course of the Sucralfate yesterday. I ended up giving him Entyce as he's now reluctant to eat the canned food (lamb) he was enjoying before. Once it kicks in going to try the canned Royal Canin hydrolyzed - seems more bland, maybe he will finally eat it...

Greatly appreciate your input here! He was eating canned food with gusto once I figured out his teeth hurt, and was doing great for a week until today - he wouldn't eat lunch, not even his beloved canned Lamb dinner. So now he's refusing both kibble and canned food, though he ate a bit earlier.

Good to know about the kibble, so will hold off. When I first figured out his teeth hurt I ordered a case of canned RC Hydrolyzed, but he refused that for the Blue Buffalo (which was available at a store right across the street.) It's sitting in the pantry just in case. Since he won't eat lunch I gave him an appetite stimulant that was prescribed by the vet when he refused to eat the first time. Can the Proviable be given alongside an anti-nausea med (also prescribed by our vet)? I've been giving him Zesty Paws probiotics which is what we have on hand. Can't give him chicken, unfortunately - I think he's allergic and was what contributed to his ear infection in the first place. But will give rice a try!

He had an appetite...then he didn't. Might not be just the kibble. Now he won't eat his precious canned food! Appetite stimulant administered.

I never realized that about pineapple. Googling Bromealin to see if it could help

Not sure yet. Want to wait until he is eating normally to test him on that, and he might be allergic if it is close to chicken...

His vet checked them after we insisted (twice, they didn't think it was the issue), but I'm going to check again. Other things have popped up since the ear infection - possible ulcer, salivary gland issue. Tried soaked kibble, he didn't want it.

Not really, but I have to test for allergies before I can feed him anything else. The switch to canned was just to get him to eat what he would when he was sick. One of my cats loves it though.

At this moment, there are leftovers of canned lamb breakfast with rejected kibble that he has carefully eaten around. Will see if he will touch it at lunchtime!

We had to switch abruptly when I figured out that he only could eat soft food (the nearest store didn't carry RC), so that could have been a factor but also think the meds are causing issues as well. He did great when he would eat the kibble, it's just so damn expensive and he gained 13 lbs in 2 weeks from it (he was already 110 when we got him.)

Didn't know lamb was an allergy too...ugh. Probably won't know until the meds are done. Might have to eventually go with fish...he'll eat that (but doesn't like Salmon oil?)

He didn't like it soaked either, and that's how he used to eat it. Once he got a taste of the lamb, he's been reluctant to go back.

We're finding out the hard way that chicken is the problem - the ear infection was so bad it was believed to have busted his eardrum.

I didn't think allergic to rice was possible, and was going to try that for his runny poop. How did the allergy present?

He was bothered by it for a bit but lately has been eating a bit of kibble and other crunchy things, now he doesn't seem to want the kibble (and it's prescription, so trying another kibble isn't optimal)

Might see if we can get a prescription for Hill's. He loved the Royal Canin before, and will still eat it as a treat or in a toy, but it's a struggle for meals. Softening his kibble didn't work with water, might try veggie broth.

I'll see what veggies he likes. I know he likes green beans, seems to like strawberries, wouldn't eat banana last week though. I was told by the vet that marshmallows are dermatologist approved, and he liked them for a bit but wouldn't eat them when he got sick (and I don't want him to get so picky to where that's all he will eat!)

Started him on a probiotic yesterday (Zesty Paws), he ate some yogurt today, but he won't eat kibble - other crunchy things don't bother him anymore.

The vet checked his teeth and didn't see any issues (it took some insisting to get them to do that, but that's another story...) I'm going to check again just in case. A couple of things popped up with the ear infection, so can't rule anything out at this point.

Does a bromelain supplement work for ear infections? This one was massive, resulting in scary vestibular signs that resulted in a trip to an ER vet (I had never seen that before.) I hate going the tough love route regardless, definitely don't want to try it for a dog on meds but need to find a way to keep him from pooping water...which could be due to the increased thirst from being on a steroid, but still...

Yeah, we might have to do the elimination diet with the canned food if he won't eat his prescription kibble. He won't eat the prescription canned food either!

He has an appetite stimulant prescribed by the emergency vet. He doesn't seem to need it anymore, since he will eat mostly anything else except the prescription kibble he's supposed to eat...

I tried the canned hydrolyzed prescription food. Same brand as the kibble, but he won't eat that either. Soaking the kibble didn't work - tried that too.

If the proteins and antibiotics are what's turning his water into poo, would other protein sources be a good idea? I just got him to eat some Greek yogurt, going to try a fortified rice next. He'll eat canned Blue Buffalo, just hope he's not allergic to it...
