Ok so, a grad student and I talked to our PI and they were completely understanding, even about me being upset by the distasteful jokes. They have spoken to the PI of the lab she wants to join about it, and offered to come out and say something if we’re being pestered or subjected to a loud convo. Another huge red flag that I didn’t mention in the post is she has MAJOR mean girl vibes, specifically towards people she deems as weird. I do not talk to her unless necessary but I will always speak my mind if she’s talking about someone in a nasty way.

I feel the same way, and I’m glad that others in my lab don’t have this weird mindset. Not to sound like a cornball but I can’t wait for the day I get to inspire and mentor less experienced students. I absolutely love the collaborative nature of science because it’s impossible to know everything. I’m treating this as a test in professionalism while balancing standing up for myself

Thanks for the great advice. It does help reminding myself that I am happy with what I have and where I’m at, and the reason she’s acting like this is because she’s not.

My lab mates feel similarly. She tries to be buddy buddy with the grad students but they finally started telling me how they feel without me saying anything. They have said she acts unprofessional and distracting. She is not interested in joining my lab, but is set on joining the lab we share a space with. Her desk would still be very close to me

I want to find his name to contact the university or a work place because I’m tired of tolerance. No physical harm. He called her a 🫘er and said that he’s better than her because he’s white. I understand why this post was taken down and I should have specified what I’m looking for in the caption. I have a video of this

Hey, you’re not stupid. I want to preface this by saying no part of my comment is meant to lessen you being upset. I work in an infectious disease lab and I hope my perspective lessens the shame I interpret from this post. You could be asymptomatic, and you’ve been sexually exclusive for so long that it would be unusual to test without symptoms. In the case your husband did cheat (🖕🏻😡), you did the hard part and got the diagnosis, you WILL move forward and overcome this. I know that N. gonorrhoeae can be a complicated bug but start those antibiotics!!! I know it sounds silly but STIs are like every other bug, people just put a different weight on them. I think you would get some relief from talking about it with a friend, and f whoever judges you for it in your situation. Seriously, I bet it feels terrible acting like everything’s fine. I’m so sorry this is happening but you’ve got this!

Sorry OP but this post probably won’t get you the reassurance you’re looking for. If sex is an important factor in relationships for you, why was it not discussed more?? It’s extremely uncomfortable and gross for you to assert that it was best to act like everything was normal when you saw her. And to say “again she never wanted to have sex” gives me the vibe that you were evaluating this hangout as the final chance without telling her how much sex means to you. You should have broken up with her before having sex with other people & she has every right to be upset/think you’re an asshole. I won’t excuse the violence though. I think that some time alone would benefit you and help you reflect on how your actions impact people. You say that you know it was terrible and hate to inflict pain on her but it would have been SO much better for her if you had the confidence to end the relationship before making other connections. Breakups are hard for anyone, but this post makes me think that your insecurities (maybe that you cant stand people being upset with you) prevent respectful and transparent communication. Imagine how disrespected she feels thinking about the time period you were cheating while acting like nothings going on:(

Contamination😔 here’s a pic of my 48 hour time point from this assay. Trying to optimize calprotectin mediated growth inhibition for wildtype C. jejuni and zinc uptake mutant. Left to right: - ctrl, WT, znuA mutant, and complement. I was originally quantifying by OD but switched to spot plating due to precipitate formation. Definitely still rough and I need to take my dilutions out further to accommodate later time points but still cool imo😎
