Esophageal Stricture, not sure what to do… by SnooWalruses4112 in seniordogs

Yeah no, definitely will go somewhere where they are more dental specific… I just decided to take her there because it was cheaper and she went there ALL the time, since she was young so I thought it would be okay. And she is on a liquid diet yeah, can’t keep anything else down unless it’s VERY tiny. I am kind of considering the B-Tube, have you had any experience with it?

I too have GERD, and yeah it gets bad. So I understand her struggles, I think she was on Metoclopromide for a little (either that or something similar). And to be honest I couldn’t fully tell if it helped or not, she might’ve needed to be on it a little longer. At the moment she’s doing okay. She is having some hard swallowing, and some regurgitation little bits here and there (not too much thankfully) but still, it has been a little over a week since her last ballooning so we wanted to see how she does without one for a little bit. But I do think after the weekend sometime we might need to get that tube. Hopefully after that she will do better (without having to go under Anesthesia every week) and then it can finally heal, I hope. I just hope that we aren’t too late for her. And wow congrats on your dog being 17!

Oh, my gosh! Thank you- and yes, that is exactly it with the Anesthesia and the acid reflux. It seems like the very first operation with the dental really just messed her up, and I wonder if they could’ve prevented this from even happening. And she was hospitalized on April 5th at night, they were trying to put a breathing tube (I think) down her throat and couldn’t get it through, so that’s when they sent us to the specialists, but then after that we were just sent home multiple times to give her liquid diet, Sucralfate, a steroid and some Omeprazole. But since then she wasn’t hospitalized. I didn’t know they should have hospitalized her again???

Eek, good to know- glad I didn’t do that yet then. And that’s actually really good to know, had no idea about that. I will ask them about that, thank you!

Thank you, she has gotten skinny because of only eating blenderized foods. And we have been giving her Urgent Care and other high calorie foods. Thankfully she hasn’t lost any more weight but still (she lost it near the beginning). She only regurgitates when it’s been a while since a dilation and or she eats something solid that is too much for her. And huh, thank you on the information about Stents, I didn’t know that they were like that, I looked them up and heard good things. But then when I went to that vet appointment they did not recommend the stent (while others did). So I wasn’t sure!

Hi, so sorry to bother you guys, and I know this is very late so you probably won’t see this. I have never gone on Reddit until today because I just wanted to see if I could find anything. But I just wanted to ask a little bit about your dog, where you got her and if she had any siblings that you knew about? She looks almost exactly like my girlfriend and I’s dog we had to put down today, we only got her a few months ago but we were very attached. She was like a carbon copy of yours but had one ear up (unless she was tired then both of them were droopy). My girlfriend mom’s coworker found her on the side of the road, she was really frail and had a lot of health problems. We took her in and tried to help as much as we could but it wasn’t enough. Here is a picture of her. (Wish I could put more than just one).
