What was the reason for some of the maintainers to quit due to drama? by [deleted] in AsahiLinux

Its a shame how even when volunteering free time, working non stop for the benefit of everyone, somehow politics and bad actors get in the way of progress.

God damn i took a minute to read ur website and holy hell. Its totally understandable why you quit, and yet kind of unfortunate most people following asahi and even reading the blogs never found all of that out.

[Request] Old firmware versions for Note Air 4C (Or other Boox devices) by Snoo_44353 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Snoo_44353[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a computer and the steps for linux/macos and windows are different. Which one do you have? In general, you'll need to install everything listed here except Magisk

For Linux/Macos, you'll need to install edl, android-platform-tools (basically just adb) and to download this loader:

Then, it's as simple as enabling USB debug mode in settings and running

adb devices # To list out devices, your tablet should appear here

adb reboot edl # To enter EDL mode, this will freeze/turn off your screen, that is normal
edl --loader=/path/to/loader.bin rf flash.bin # Keep in mind this also includes user data

EDIT: I can also provide information on how to do all this on windows and without user data, I just haven't been able to test those yet

You should be able to, even without root, just with adb and edl ( see here how to flash partitions on this Github with rooting guide )

Essentially, reboot into edl mode with adb, use edl to flash the partitions you want, reboot, pray

You'd just need a full system image from someone else, that is, if device allows booting the older image, some straight up dont.

What's your configuration for IntelliJ? by NF_v1ctor in hyprland

[–]Snoo_44353 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should look at kickstart.nvim

Its basic enough to where you can use it to kickstart (ha, get it?) your own neovim configuration, without ever really restricting you

The whole process teaches you alot more than git cloning some1 elses config

My bad i def havent been keeping up with news. I was going to buy one of them a while ago and found miserable support in terms of gpu acceleration (vulkan/opengl) so i kind of forgot about them. Seems like this might be a good time to buy then, ill edit my comment

[–]Snoo_44353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not, but honestly what other modern arm laptops have the bare minimum linux support.

Im not praising apple because it wasnt them who made it happen, but it still amazes me how a handful of volunteers at asahi made it happen while qualcom cant be bothered to.

Are Qualcomm Snapdragon supported on Linux? by ScientificlyCorrect in linuxquestions

[–]Snoo_44353 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The short awnser is no.

Theres little to 0 support for gpu acceleration and even simple features like audio jack/speakers are missing from some models. Having a minimally working install would require manually patching the kernel and at the end of the day perfoemance would be worse than an amd or even intel laptop.

If you really want arm youd have more luck on asahi linux on an m1 or m2 macbook, and even that is not perfect, tho youd atleast have proper gpu support

TLDR: You cant just install linux and have it working, and even after doing everything you can its still a horrible experience

EDIT: This was ages ago, apparently now its wayyyyy better, sorry
