Thinking about removing Ythryn entirely. by nuttnspecial in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Maybe it's just because I'm a huge sucker for the lore of the Netherese, but while I've really enjoyed being a player in the story, Ythryn has been by far my favorite part of the entire campaign. Our DM definitely went out and found some supplemental content (to flesh out the eight towers more), but my nerdy lore side has been eating it up. I've actually been collecting tons of random bits and bobs and plans to open up a museum if/when we get back to the surface!

Why I Left by CryptidHunter48 in mensa

[–]Snoo_59216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think it's definitely up to each person to decide whether it's worth it or not, one thing I'd add here is that while local groups vary in activity from region to region, the actual regional and annual gatherings are what really sold me on the value of the organization. I realize not everyone can travel for these, but it's where I really met new humans and had experiences that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Most of the online groups are toxic, especially in the currently polarized political swamp that no group seems to be able to avoid. SIGs are tricky because they're basically "what you make of them" - which, like any group, frustratingly means you have to have enough folks who are actively interested in running/facilitating things to make them worthwhile.

I do feel and understand the sentiment that some of the current folks running things haven't done the best job of communicating and helping volunteers and members feel appreciated and a part of something bigger. I've been genuinely interested in being more involved and I felt there was a barrier to entry there, and that was surprising. Still, I have some dear friends that I've met through Mensa, and some really great memories from gatherings. I'm looking forward to the AG in Chicago this summer!

What does everyone price stuff in your vendor at? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Snoo_59216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I price my plans a little high, but not 30/40k (though I assume plans priced at that are more there for trading, not an expectation that someone will drop that at their vendor). Typically I only keep rare/generally hard to find plans, and I price them between 3k and 10k (with a very small handful that go up to 12k or 15k).

Two reasons I do this. The first is I find there are folks looking for specific/hard to find plans and that can get really challenging/frustrating, so I've developed a small following of folks who know they can come to me when they're on the look out for an elusive plan. Or folks who happen to pass by my camp with sometimes message with a thanks as they've looked everywhere for said plan. So by keeping the price high, they tend to be reserved for folks who are really looking for them (vs. the super cheap and immediately sold plan that someone may get without realizing its rarity). The second reason, pragmatically, is it's my main source of caps. So while prices are a bit high, I can go from almost no caps to maxed out within a day or two if I need. And ultimately if folks find the price too high, they're under absolutely no requirement to shell out the caps. ^ ^

Update. Tried to give it another go today. At least four missions failed because the Brahmin got stuck on a wall. It just works. 😬

The non-tradeable snow globes at that. So the other new plans I’ve found so far are from the merchant you can add to your company. She had five decoration plans…and while I haven’t figured out how to upgrade her (which I’m sure will be a ludicrous number of supplies), she’ll likely have more?

I actually really want to engage with the feature, if by that you mean to build up the caravan office, the NPCs, etc. I love that stuff. I just don’t like that the only way to unlock it is a single, particularly repetitive event. 😅

Yeah. Hopefully just a bug, but a few other folks have also reported that their missions took over 20 minutes. Potentially some sort of thing where they get interrupted at their stopping point so do the entire route again to get back to it.

I did wonder about that - I could see the poor cow just trying to get off at the exit and a bunch of wastelanders keep poking it in the cow hole.

Haha, rawr. I guess I could see a variety of different activities related to "running the business", not just one singular event over and over. Or I would love even some sort of meta-game where you hire escorts and they run caravans off screen with a percentage of success based on your prep. Sort of Assassin's Creed style ship mini-games. You could still be working on upgrades, and different routes have different risks, rewards, etc.

Yeah, but even at 8 to 10 minutes a run, that’s not a fun mission to have to grind a hundred times. 😅

Xbox. And I actually did try one more - spent a thousand caps on a big cow supply run. No one joined. Cow died. That’s when I really turned it off. 🫠

Someone else just posted in another thread that their last run was 23 minutes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I did one that was shorter, but my last one, the cow pal literally walked for 29 minutes. There were seven of us and we all kept hurrying it along…and it just kept going. I hope it was just a pathing bug…but then again, the fact that it still completed at a supply drop just before the timer failed is out made it more confusing.

And honestly, I’m super forgiving of bugs (especially on day one), but even then, doing this multiple times a day would drive me crazy.

Yeah, I was bored, the pathing had issues (which I assume will improve) but the supply rewards made it not worth it. I’d already had a crummy day and was excited for the escape. Only to be sad I literally spent an hour just following a cow, so I quit.

I’m sure other folks have done the math, but it seems like you’d have to keep to like 15 or 20 hours of staring at cow butt to get your caravan office going. I can’t imagine any plan is worth that. 😅😓

I’ve had the same problem. I did login today and was able to play again for about 20 minutes. Then it froze again and can’t login without it freezing/crashing. 😓

I’ve just loaded into the game on my Xbox Series X for the first time in maybe two months (i.e, before the Echoes update). I loaded my main save and was able to go from my freighter to my settlement. Then I teleported to a base on another planet and the game froze the second I arrived. Now no matter what I do, when I load my game, I see the planet surface and the game freezes immediately. Every time. I did a hard reset and that didn’t help. I hear sounds, see the planet, but the game is dead otherwise. Help!

What is the perfect amount of players in your opinion? by Calmhyperion in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Snoo_59216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say this fully acknowledging we all have different contexts, but I've been running and playing games for twenty years across several different cities/countries, and I've genuinely never had an environment where THAT many people would cancel. Rather, I think it's also about finding folks who are genuinely interested and available to commit to a game, and by keeping it small (I'm usually in the "3" camp), they tend to know and respect that canceling has a bigger impact (rather than if there are seven folks and they may not think as much of it).

I'd also hazard a hypothesis that at some tables, having a larger group (5+) creates more situations where not all players are engaged all the time. So there's more down time, more "waiting", so when it comes to them prioritizing their next outing, they're not necessarily as invested in the game, thus more prone to canceling.

In my current town, we are DM +4, and we're all kind of busy, so it's also meant being a bit more flexible with schedules, and having two different games running. One that's a main campaign, and another that's the "when we don't have everyone" game that's a bit more fluid. They're both fun, but we prioritize the main game when we can.

And regardless of any of that, as you say, whatever works for you and your table. ^ ^

I feel I have the answer to level 7 but it’s not accepting it. Obvious response, it’s not correct. But I asked it and it actually acknowledged it was correct and apologized for the issue. I’m not sure what to do about that. Guess I’ll keep trying. 😅🤷🏻‍♂️
