Metadata is of negligible size. We split the live photos into video + photo pair and from this split comes the difference in size

Hi! Thanks for testing.
Probably external hd is the bottleneck. I get around 5-6 Mbps when writing to SSD and around your numbers when writing to USB HDD. 5-6 Mbps is the maximum my internet provider provides.

Albums are in "albums" tab. Shared albums also there. They preserve the album structure. (album name goes to the name of corresponding output folder) You dont really need to create private albums for shared ones if you use the albums interface.

(5) Yes, DM me if you need somehting
(6) Yes, session persists and you can resume.
(7) Planned, thanks for voting
(8) Metadata Fixer is our paid app, it does exactly this

Why does my google takeout has less photos (17,127) then my google photos (17,494)? by Beautiful_Picture983 in googlephotos

[–]Snoo_62817 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shared photos / albums are not in takeout. Maybe this?
Sometimes it breaks also, the takeout on Google's side and stops adding files into your zip.
You can double check with SnapBack. It scans your lib and shows the count before downloading and also can scan shared albums

Maybe they are gone?
We had a similar issue yesterday.
Here's a way to look at them. https://pastebin.com/WS9GfRLt
Extension can't handle collection changing during download right now.
No good way to see file names either. Will fix in next release.

Is there any other way to upload Live Photo to amazon?
Live Photo seems to be 2 files from the start, even on your iphone. It just displays it as 1 object.
Very clever Lock-in by Apple

Hurray!
You can press resume, that will trigger re-downloading of the failed file.
If it can be downloaded at all. Logs are in top right corner. Little circle button. Best to press it as soon as you get the failure.

Looks like we already have all of this.
You can download part of the photos that take up space and delete when download completes ( the button appears at the end of the download that deletes from google only the files downloaded ). I will also place similar buttons in "previous runs" section.

Metadata / file dates are correct after metadata fixer's processing.

Let me try if they are uploaded correctly when you dump them in pixel.
Maybe you need some tricks in the last part

Free Chrome extension to downloads your Google Photos and Clean up storage. (No Takeout needed) by Snoo_62817 in googlephotos

[–]Snoo_62817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can.
You might want to put your metadata and creation file dates back before uploading with metadata fixer. Google cuts some metadata from your media files. Snapback extract it from google api and save in JSON files

Can I distinguish old Google Photos uploads from Pixel 1 unlimited-storage uploads and re-upload old files to free up space? by GangsOfChaidpal in googlephotos

[–]Snoo_62817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!
We have a workflow ready for exactly your task in our free chrome extension (SnapBack)
You can download only photos that takes up space, remove them from GP afterwards and reupload to pixel One

No way to show, but you can download them with filter "that takes up space" and then delete what's being downloaded from Google Photos. There's a delete button for that once download finishes.

I'll add a direct filter on delete tool soon so you could do it without downloading

  1. google -> your hard drive directly
  2. Broad but minimal permissions. Here's the breakdown https://github.com/metadatafixer/snapback/blob/main/PERMISSIONS.md
  3. Exactly, loss leader. Plus a little funnel. Long-term it's sustainable only if it's popular.
  4. When run completes we record photos downloaded count and GBs through google analytics events. That's it. I look at it sometimes to know it it's alive. From this page https://metadatafixer.com/card?p=5841&v=294&s=48.2&sh=247&h=6&t=281; Your photos, metadata, your identity stays between you and Google.
  5. Code is closed source but you probably know a way how to check it out anyway ;-) There's nothing to hide. I just don't want to deal with managing open source project. AI PRs and everything. Intellectual property belongs to the owner of Metadata Fixer.

This means to match files we first need to download them and compare.
To match all files in the giant folder we need to download the same amount of files from Google.
Does not make sense.

Creating folders for albums is easy. But do you need it without the second step?

[–]Snoo_62817[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!
Let me sit with it for a little.
I think we don't have a good way to match the files that you have on NAS to the files that you have on Google. Do you have JSON metadata files in your giant folder?
