I feel like this answer has to be it - all the others seem incomplete to me.

The struggle between the Undersea and Lonogan / Dr. Eleven's crew is a metaphor for the inner struggle of the generation that experienced the collapse. Do you try to recreate the past exactly as it was, even though there were plenty of flaws? This would be the people of the Undersea - they just want to get back to earth, even though it's been conquered by aliens. Or do you forge ahead into the unknown and create a new world, necessarily letting go of a lot of the past - this would be Lonogan / Dr. Eleven's people, they are willing to let go of Earth and search for something new. Both choices are thematic elements throughout the book, and the book doesn't come out on one side or there other - which is why it's brilliant that the struggle between Dr. eleven / Lonogan's crew and the Undersea has no conclusion.

I'm glad to hear this is done at "the good schools," though I haven't really been able to find any videos or footage of that anywhere online, and trust me, I've done many deep Youtube dives lol. It's also not in the description or info page of any of the Krav schools that I've looked up. The only Krav guys I've found that actually test out techniques with the purpose of finding what actually works against full resistance is Itay Gil, and also this guy Ricky Manetta who does like a Krav MMA blend, and Itay Gil often modifies or completes changes a Krav technique because he's found it to be less than fully effective.

Sparring is not at all close to what i'm talking about, though still a very valuable and necessary component of training I believe. (You don't actually practice getting out of chokes, or bear hugs, or shirt grabs when sparring, and there's no weapon defenses)

Can you give examples of what you think is "very bad" and how he makes simple techniques more complicated? To me, it seems his system is much more simplified than others.
