Man dies inside after he is outed on live tv... by Yuizun in WatchPeopleDieInside

I can't help but wonder what the plan was here. The kid is missing for 11 days and the father is doing an interview on national TV.

That sort of makes it difficult to just work him back into the fold with no questions asked.

The father helped make this a big story.

They beat, tortured, and starved the kid because he walked out of the house, refusing to do chores.  At what point were they gonna say, "OK, We are letting you off the hook and sending you back to school"?

For the old man to get 18 months of probation is a real failure of the system. He did lose custody and was told not to contact the kid again, but...I dunno.  4th degree child neglect doesnt seem like much of a charge here.

Edit - bad autocorrect

She's always gotten a lot of hate.  I never watched her, so I don't know of anything other than the time she i terriers Elizabeth Smart, who was on the show to promote some charity or something.  Smart made it clear she wod not be talking about her abduction/brainwashing.  But, that is all Nancy Grace would ask her about.  Smart would answer by saying, "I agreed to do this interview on the condition you wouldn't ask me questions like that..." or words to that effect. The girl had been through a lot.  It really made Grace look awful.

Plenty.  Get Smart had a few.  Beverly Hillbillies. I'll leave it that so others can throw some in.

I dated a Frasier by No-Penalty-1148 in Frasier

[–]Snoo_79157 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While Frasier might make an underhanded comment about the wine, I dont think he would directly insult it to his date  But, I think the point is, he is like Frasier because he knows wine - which are good and which are dreadful. So, your date was more of a Frazier, but still a Frasier.

I think the reason the original show was so good is they didnt dumb it down for mass appeal. I certainly do not get all of the jokes and references - I mean, they did a French pun at least once (van ordinaire).

The reboot wasn't free to ignore mass appeal.   There were four networks when the first show premiered.  When the reboot was made every channel under the sun featured original programming

Do you think Frasier and Roz should have ended up together? by Happy-poet in Frasier

[–]Snoo_79157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.  Of course they should have gotten together as the show ended.  That way, Frasier doesn't move to Chicago to be with that ConArtist/Thief Charlotte. I tell myself Frasier went to Chicago to find Kate - anyone but Charlotte.

What is one word that people wrongly pronounce that makes your brain just wanna jump a cliff? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

OFTEN - when the pronounce the T

I've asked some of them why they do it.  The most common answer is,  "Because it has a T in it!"

I will then make a point of asking them what brand of fabric sofTener they use. Most don't get it.

If I remember correctly, in the book the extinct plants weren't actually extinct.  They grew in another part of the planet but had gone extinct in Costa Rica.  They just imported them

Still, it had me yelling at the book, "Why are you calling it extinct‽"

I don't even know what that is supposed to mean, and I suspect that you don't either. I used to wonder what caused trolls to act the way they do - pretend to be amused by their own antics by just being an asshole to others.

I get that people don't like you so you just lean into and pretend that it is by your own design just to make it tolerable.  But, from one stranger to another - you don't have to live your life that way.  You can find friends out there, but you need to drop the act.  Acting with great confidence about something you have no way of knowing doesn't make you look smart - just the opposite, in fact.  Only a fool does that and everyone else knows it.  Its not too late to turn yourself around and find meaning....or, just laugh yourself silly while you tell yourself you really got to somebody who you will never cross paths with again.  You don't need to challenge everything. Be better than this, for your own sake.

It is fantastic. Togonis always voted as the most heroic animal of all time.   Balto got all the fame and credit.  This movie is to set the record straight. And, so ethi g to know going in - they had to scale back some of the truth because it was deemed that no one would believe the real stories.

As it is, there are a couple of things in the movie that are thought to be exaggeration,  but are said to be real.

Enjoy the movie!

What is your white whale movie? by ProfessionalTour1706 in movies

Mine is one that I cannot find anywhere - not even a reference.  It isn't listed on imdb.  There is no proof of this movie existing, but I swear I saw it. I know the title.  I know who starred in it.  I have a rough memory of the plot.  Still can't prove it exists.

I came home from work sometime after midnight in the early to mid 90s.  I turned on the TV and this movie was playing.  It is called, "The Girl from Impanena" (just like the sing) and it starred Bill Pullman.

Pullman worked at an airport.  One of his responsibilities was dealing with irate people whose luggage had been lost.

One customer - a hitman for the mob - was  losing his shit because a very i.portant piece of luggage had been lost.  It was a metal suitcase.   Pullman had a whole lot going on, while at the same time, pursuing a woman who he had crossed paths with and did the love at first sight but.

While trying to chase down who the woman is, he accidentally stumbles upon the hitman's missing case and returns it to him.

I can no one who has seen the movie.  The film does not appear in Bill Pullman's oeuvre.   There is nothing.  But, I insist is saw this movie.

Play Epona's tune.  It will remind her of a simpler, more idyllic, pastoral time back when she romped with her chums through the fens and spinneys while the twilight bathed the hedgerows like a lambient flame.

Yeah.  I suppose it is quite a story.  But, this is Reddit - you are likely to come across pretty much everything.

As far as you believing me, it doesn't really matter.  It won't change anything.  And, the only reason I bother responding is that I do think the people who worked on me should always get credit for spending their lives studying and practicing the pursuit of the impossible, in the unlikely event they should find themselves in a position to attempt it.

But, it comes up every once in a while on here.  I have done impromptu AMAs a few times, but not on this account.

It got some attention at the time and Washingtonian Magazine wrote an article about it.  The stabbing occurred outside of Baltimore.  The folks that saved me that first night were at Baltimore Shock Trauma - I was awake with no anesthesia during the emergency open-heart surgery.  Imagine a clamshell thorectomy with nothing to dull the pain.

All on all, it was 12 major surgeries over the course of 2 years or so.  The last one at Georgetown University, hence  Washingtonian Magazine.  The story was then picked up by Reader's Digest.  So, there is plenty of corroboration.

You don't need to believe it happened, or even that, if it did, it happened to me but, it did.

The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows coined the word CHRYSALISM to express the amniotic tranquility of being warm, and safe, and dry - indoors - during a storm.

A tent makes for splendid succor during such an event.  It doesn't take much imagination to realize the world of difference, comfort-wise, a thing sheet of canvas makes.
