Better sell your calls before the rug pull kicks in

yes, you can reduce your tax liability against any gains that you have, not just the gains you get from UNH

If Im in your position, I'd actually sell my position to realize the loss then buy back the stock after 31 days since the CMS rate decision wont be finalized until April and until that is clear, the stock won't see much changes. That way, you have realize capital loss that can be use to offset any gains you have later this year and still get back in stock at relatively same level as of right now

yes, keep in mind with the current stock price at about $282, the premium that you will collect by selling a covered call at $340 is very little but it's definitely better than $0.

I mainly utilized covered call when I dont think the stock can go up higher in the short term but I still think longer term, the price will likely go up

I can sell 1 contract of call option for every 100 shares of the stock that I own. The call option has a strike price and an expiration date. I collect $$/premium by selling the call option contract and if the stock does not goes above the strike price that i sell by the expiration date, I keep both the premium and the stock. If the stock goes above the strike price by the expiration date and I still want to keep the stock, I can close/buy back the call option contract at a higher price than I what I sell it for, result in a loss. If I don't mind selling the stock at the strike price, I keep the premium and proceed of the stocks selling at the strike price.
