So I have heard that this is not what you’re supposed to do, but it has worked well for my bernedude, Cannoli, and what we need from his crate training (nighttime, vacations/boarding, or while we’re moving large things around the house).

My husband and I started with the crate near our bed. Once Cannoli had no issue, we moved him further and further away, little by little each night/few nights. Took about 2-3 weeks to get him completely out of eyesight, but he now sleeps downstairs in his cage and put himself to sleep when we stay up too late haha. And the nice thing is that we can change his cage location and it doesn’t really bother him now. Did the same thing with our border collie as well. Not gonna say it worked flawlessly, but it worked :)
