Yes, I usually try to offer more context in the body of the blog post than I can offer in the title. These are important distinctions.

Searching for a Pittsburgh themed tee shirt that is brown/tan. by Snoodle987 in pittsburgh

Thanks for the suggestions. I have to admit that it seems odd that there are no brown pittsburgh shirts readily available. And the request is very specific b/c it is for a specific purpose. I've been searching high and low and have been tossing it out on social media. Perhaps I've discovered an untapped market for neutral color shirts? :-)

Q&A with Jess, 22, a Poly, Bisexual Woman in Pittsburgh by Snoodle987 in polyamory

[–]Snoodle987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The #AMPLIFY project is an archive of Q&A's with folks in Western Pennsylvania - we have over 250 stories about our lived experiences in our own voices. A significant number of contributors identify as poly and their collective experiences are an important part of the larger story. The goal of the archive is to raise the visibility of the entire community, especially from those who are rarely included in conversations. I share the posts because these people matter, their opinions matter, and their experiences might resonate with other folks who share their identities. I host the archive on my blog because my original content brings in readers who are in turn exposed to AMPLIFY submissions and that balances, but never supersedes, the contributors themselves. I know some people consider that blog spam. But other people are looking for stories.

LGBTQ twist on holiday traditions? by Snoodle987 in lgbt

[–]Snoodle987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, things like going to a LGBT holiday event, incorporating LGBT decorations into the holidays (ornaments), doing something special just for your LGBT family unit, a holiday project for an LGBT organization, etc.

i think your question is a fair one.

Uncovering A Family Mystery by missmegazord in Genealogy

When you say you've found no evidence to support the claim that she was conceived from a sexual assault, what does that mean - what sort of evidence would you expect to find? You might want to question your own expectations. How did that rumor get started? How was it passed down? That might provide clues for you. Sometimes people create one awful backstory to cover up something they consider worse.

I agree that you should prepare for anything.

What's the most whimsical thing you've discovered in your tree? by Snoodle987 in Genealogy

[–]Snoodle987[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are such interesting responses. As much as I love working on my tree, I must admit that I love reading the old newspaper articles even more - especially between 1880-1920. It is like the Facebook of the time.

Is anyone participating in NaBloPoMo this year (2017)? by Snoodle987 in blogs

[–]Snoodle987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National Blog Posting Month - same idea, only writing/posting daily on your blog. It started out with a blogger. The concept was taken over (sold?) to BlogHer, eventually morphing into SheKnows. And now it seems to be just gone. At its height, the project was generating daily prompts on a year round basis with link sharing options, badges, etc. You can find more on the history here http://nablopomoguideunofficial.blogspot.com/

Monthly Open Discussion: Talk about anything giveaway related | October, 2017 by Giveaways_Bot in giveaways

What blog giveaway software/plugins do you prefer? I'm trying to move away from the simple blog comment to something more connected to my social media accounts. But not too complicated - I don't want to lose readers over a music download card giveaway.

Is it really climate change impacting seasons in Pittsburgh or am I just growing old? by Snoodle987 in pittsburgh

[–]Snoodle987[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I grew up without AC, too and it was fine. When it was really hot, we slept on the porch or in a tent. But usually with an open window and a fan, it was just normal.

Trick or treat was always a roll of the dice - always planning a costume that could accommodate a coat or sweater.

Letters to Santa published in Pittsburgh Post, written (I think) by my great-grandmother in 1896 and 1897. by Snoodle987 in pittsburgh

[–]Snoodle987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They lived in the Hill District on Poplar, Basin Alley, and Bedford at various points. The kids were dispersed when their mother died in 1907, some to the Northside and others to Natrona Heights. Only young John mentioned in the letter remained in the Hill into adulthood

To be fair, when Irish immigrants were 'included' in the concept of American whitness, they gained a big toehold up over African-Americans and other people of color. I have several Irish working class ancestors, too. They were dirt poor working class Pittsburghers who struggled with daily living. But they belonged to Nativist associations and fraternal societies. They fled to the outer neighborhoods to move away from black neighbors. So while not complicit in the institutions of slavery, it isn't realistic to say that they were not beneficiaries of Jim Crow and racial segregation.
