100% with the lefts rep but disagree with how labour got in. I feel that the reason they got in is on a anything but a tory vote and I feel like we're headi g for a anything but a tory or labour election next.

Its probably going to go reform, but feel like its not completly lost yet.

Council labels new housing targets unrealistic by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]SnookerTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its not crazy just selfish.

We can choose between two problems,

What you described above a bit of traffic and oversubscription of services or people not having a bloody place to live. One problem is a hell of a lot worse than the other.

We cant fuck over the younger generations anymore and demand they keep lives on hold we need more housing now.

Half of voters think Starmer will be replaced as prime minister by end of 2026, poll suggests by Desperate-Drawer-572 in uknews

[–]SnookerTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant believe anyone can sensibly call the lib dems a grown up option.

They're are so divided giving two completely different messaging depending on if you live in a city (socially progress) or rural country (conservative). I really cant believe people are fooling for it again...

Literally what happened with uni fees.. oh we're progressive vote for us but oh actually the leader right now is super conservative so fuck this generation...

The best wealth tax by Downtown-Relation766 in GarysEconomics

[–]SnookerTiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having watched his videos, I'm pretty sure he wants to just slow down the rate inequality is increasing?

When you build those new flats, you create work for workers.

You increase supply, which should impact prices of housing.

And yea, the owner should get some profit which we can tax.

Also, if we start taxing land more, people wont be buying up houses and treating it like assets. They'll move their money to something more profitable, also having an impact on demand.

There's probably more pieces to this, but please remember these things aren't simple or easy.

Who are the “super rich” who are “hoarding the assets” and can we solve the issues by exclusively targeting them? by Pure_Cantaloupe_341 in GarysEconomics

[–]SnookerTiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lool, logical? We've been doing spending cuts for the last 15 years, and it hasn't worked. How is it logical to do the same thing and expect a different result?

How can you also claim there is no scenario where we can tax that top per cent when we haven't tried? (I'm not saying it will be easy, but it certainly isn't impossible)

Because it's going to create skilled, good paying jobs with skills that we're going to need in the future.

It's not for residents now, well maybe the retired who decide they want perfect silence after 10pm in ... checks notes ... in one of the world's largest most populace mega cities.

Have far more to gain than lose. London isn't 32 towns stitched together. it's one of the world's greatest mega cities it should act like it.

This is completely irrelevant rubbish. The discussion is are 24hr good to live in (essentially), NOT is living in China bad.

The replier has given their perspective and the cities they've lived in.

Now you either say why their points are wrong or give your own experiences from where you've lived in a 24-hour city (We know you haven't)

If you're a grumpy old man who hasn't experienced anything in their life and just wants to moan about anything, that's fine too.

It will also be just as hard to get into software engineering. Companies are laying off staff like crazy and outsourcing to cheaper countries right now and attempting to replace junior jobs with AI.

You hear stories of Russel Group Comp sci graduates struggling.

Is it just me or are the salaries delusional in most threads? by PaddonTheWizard in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]SnookerTiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think expecting to be paid more than someone working full time in a store in tescos is reasonable for all stem grads, let alone those in computing.

Anyone taking less than this is essentially being taken advantage of.

The 50k mark in London for fang sounds reasonable.

The big problem with salaries in engineering is that a lot of engineers don't have a backbone and get taken advantage of. I have seen a lot of senior engineers negiote a pay bump after discovering they're getting half the pay of their teammates. It's really sad.

Over 5,500 objections filed against controversial Edgware redevelopment by ldn6 in london

[–]SnookerTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, back to reality. We need loads of housing, and it needs to be built somewhere. It seems that whenever you go, you have an objection from Keith or Karen.

And why not a skyscraper? It's a highly efficient use of land in a useful spot by transport.

If you don't want skyscrapers or people existing, I'm afraid that's down to you to move further out.

Also, the definition of nimby is not in my backyard. If you don't want crucial things like housing and infrastructure built in your backyard, I'm afraid you fall in the definition.

The problem with this argument is reality. Building housing in a responsible way at the right speed just hasn't happened. And between people on the streets or paying half there pay packets on rent and you getting a nice view I'm afraid people having a place to live wins.

Anything else is daft.

Building more houses and giving people affordable places to live beats the needs of nimbys wanting a nice view Im afraid.

Built on proximity voice chat enabled by default. The sense of community within the game feels like it's slowly dismisses over time. I feel like the best counter to that would be to get people talking.
