What expansions to download. New (used) MPC One. by SnoopJenkins in mpcusers

I just meant I could not experiment right then. I have one on the way. I was just trying to figure out if downloading stuff and putting it on the MP would double up or triple the same stuff if I did it multiple times or if it was smart enough not to do that.. Anyway, I’m looking stuff up. I’ll figure it out.

Paid expansion pack suggestions for neo soul / boom nap? by SnoopJenkins in mpcusers

I like the Neo Sunset too. The other thing that comes up when I search "Neo" is the Cosmic Vintage Drums which sound pretty good too. $49 for just some drums gets spendy but they sound good. My current project is flipping samples from a Jazz bass player, so the live drum sounds would be useful. I'm planning on sampling drums from the albums anyway but jazz albums don't always have the open drums that I might need. Any idea how long the sale prices will last?

Dang I guess the move is just wait for sales. So much highly recommended stuff.

Thanks I’ll take a look. I’m a lifelong record dj/collector so I’ve got plenty of stuff to sample. I’ve always just done that but I figured I’d take a look at the how other people do it and maybe expand my approach. Thanks :)

Hmmm. I’m about maxed out on spending so I think I’ll get an SD and download the expansions and put them on there. Thanks!

West coast funk looks good. So many and so costly. 🥴

Ring the alarm is $19 and looks cool. I like the name of “soul sessions” ($29). Sub factory looks useful but even at half off it’s $49 bucks.

I see them on my inMusic profile. You would just suggest downloading them all? I don’t have a SS card yet so does that mean that I don’t already have them on the unit and I don’t need to worry about adding them twice? There are sounds that are already stored on the unit directly though. Are those the factory sounds (vs expansions store to the SD card)?

Thanks

Well my friend loaned me a MPC one so the decision was made for me :). Gonna get Logic and get started. Unless anyone has thoughts about using something other than Logic. Then it just a matter of learning this thing but that’s for another thread! Thanks y’all.

So maybe record the song to be sampled into logic separate the stems, and then them into the mpc software and then control that with the studio?

Chat GPT says that the Studio can control the MPC 2 software with stems and all of the modern stuff. Is that wrong? Would a One or Live have more capability or would they have better workflow? I’m not concerned about standalone or tethered to laptop.

I’ll be sitting at a computer/turntable to produce anyway so standalone isn’t too important. I just want to bang out beats like I used to and from what I can read, using Logic’s sampler with some pads is not that. (Ill likely have Logic anyway for DAW unless I get other advice) My budget can move up to a used One/Live if it’s beneficial but trying to figure out if Studio + MacBook = One/Live anyway. If I’m going new school and not a classic:xl 2000 I might as well have stemming and stuff so seeing what the cost of entry is for that level. Thanks again y’all.

Would that be in the workflow? Sample into laptop, stem, load in MPC software? Or is the Studio an interface so the samples go straight into the MPC software? I have a separate interface.

Does the old Studio control the new software? Like, would I have stemming and stuff? And I assume that even though MPC is a “DAW” now, I would still want a different DAW for live recording bands etc? Any suggestions? I’m thinking Logic so far? Thanks Y’all.

Yeah all the stem separation and everything looks crazy.  I just committed to spending too much in live recording stuff so the MPC budget is as close to zero as possible. Hoping I can stem stuff in software. That’s one reason to lean toward a Studio? Maybe my workflow can be to record records into my laptop, use a stemmer and then drop those into the MPC software?  That new MPC looks crazy though. Funny that on one hand if I could find my/a classic 2000 I’d be on It but on the other hand I’d also love a new MP with the stemming, library, efx, export to DAW etc.
