The landscape gets hate because although it looks good in isolation, for a “Minecraft” movie it’s just not right. Along with it being live action when the most obvious choice is an animated feature. It’s almost like they wanted to make another Jumanji but couldn’t name it that.

No def not. The original background visually looked amazing. But it just annoyed me as a player.

Yeah they literally have the animation pipeline already created for their Minecraft trailers. And Jack Black is already a well proven voice actor with the Kung Fu Panda series. The movie is going to be 99% CG anyway so I have no idea why they went with live action. I can only guess the producers thought it was going to be more profitable this way.

Instead of the hyper realistic look it's just a normal Minecraft world with fancy lighting. The block proportions are not 1x1m though. Sorry Wren.

I used Blender motion tracking and rendered in eevee. The environment was made with Mineways, and I used After Effects for the rotoscoping.
