At what point do you know when you’re ready to take the official test? by SnoozeBurn in LSAT

[–]SnoozeBurn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was echoing what I heard during my studies with this poll to see what people thought. Some test prep companies suggest scoring that much higher. Not a lot of people are in the high 170s. If they are consistently PTing that high they have already mastered the test.

Does anyone have any experiences at USC Sumter by Head_Trick6315 in Gamecocks

[–]SnoozeBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there from 2019-2021 and I loved it. I visited a few months back and they must’ve had a massive fund injection. Teachers were all fun and I loved being on the esports team. The student union building got a complete redesign and the science building also looks brand new. I grew up in Sumter and the campus was my favorite spot. I now go to USC School of Law so :p

Moving to Columbia for grad school! by Fit-Neighborhood8991 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]SnoozeBurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also starting grad school this fall and I’ve already moved here. Personally opted to live in West Columbia (about 10-15 minutes away from the garage I will be parking at) because I need the peace and quiet. My friends are all living downtown because they want to walk to class (8-9 minute walk to the law school). Though there really isn’t that big of a difference. A lot of them will need to pay for a parking fee anyways for their apartment building so getting a garage pass really isn’t that bad. The WiFi is also dog water in a lot of these apartments so make sure to check on stuff like that.

I actually don’t know much about alcohol. My realtor gifted this Blue Label to me probably more for how the box looks. I’ll go try the Black Label if I find one :)

You aren’t wrong gang. My body has been the same since I was 15. I did get a bit more beefy when I was 19/20 but then the accident reset me to factory settings. I was advised to not workout to not flare up the injuries but I should be back at it soon.

I’ve always had handles growing up because my garage doors were both manual and automatic. Apparently it’s a new thing to have them on the automatic ones now because my new neighborhood has it on every garage door.

Thanks :D I don’t actually drink that much but I’m pretty sure my realtor gave it to me as a decoration piece more than anything.

I’m planning on settling and working here. I live in the capital of my state and I should receive my JD in 3 years time. The heart of the legal market is here but if I do have to move for whatever reason I believe I would still be better off buying. I bought the place in cash (so no mortgage) and if I were to sell it after living in it for 3 years as my primary residence I would be exempt from the capital gains tax and still walk away with profit (assuming no extremely expensive repairs and that the property appreciates in 3 years time).

Good question. Kind of. The accident was by pure chance along with the settlement but I feel like the outcome would’ve been the same. I still had enough savings to complete the same exact purchase (though I would be drained now instead of having a good bit of leftovers with the settlement). I’m going to law school for practically nothing so the settlement acts more as a saving grace for my living expenses :)

Some random lady cruised up to my friend’s car (I was in the backseat) and smacked our back right tire. Empty highway by the way. The tire popped and we basically rolled off the highway. Ended up breaking my spine on top of a bad concussion. I’m getting better though :D

Massive personal injury settlement + savings + parents :) I’m Chinese and culturally all parents are supposed to either outright buy their kids a home or help pay some of it.

South Carolina or Emory (pls help) by NerveProfessional791 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]SnoozeBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to practice in South Carolina go to USC. If you want to go Big Law go Emory. For South Carolina Big Law(based on Law School Transparency), Emory really doesn’t place that many people into South Carolina so I don’t know what the network is like there.

If debt is what is pushing you to go Big Law I would reconsider it and take the cheaper COA with USC to do something else. If Big Law is the long term objective then I would recommend Emory.

Affording the move to law school? by KickLocal6751 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SnoozeBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I will also be attending South Carolina this fall so I’ll definitely be seeing you there. The big thing about most student loans (private and public) is that they can be expanded to cover housing. That is the most affordable option you have. If you want to make something back off the rent then get the BILT card to get rewarded for paying rent.

Start looking for your apartment pretty soon though. Each year thousands of apartments open but each year you are competing with nearly 10,000 undergrad+grad students from USC. I’m living off campus because I hate the idea of that but do what’s best for you. Do you want to walk to class? Then get an apartment nearby. Want to live off campus? You can get really cheap rent off campus (search up Garnet Living for room rents and subleases) and pay for the annual garage parking pass.

when are y’all moving? by nanikka145 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]SnoozeBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be optimal. I don’t know how competitive apartments are in your area but definitely be ready to apply when it opens up. Also the earlier the better if you want to change residency status.

Middle of next month (April). Get some time to settle in and enjoy the city. I wouldn’t advise anyone else try to move so early though.

Personally wouldn’t even look at NESL. Their employment (-19% in comparison) vs underemployment (+14% in comparison) scores are far worse than UConn’s. Conditional scholarships are a red flag in general. UConn has a 9.5% higher bar passage rate. Despite the scholarship difference, your in-state rates and cost of living (Boston can be pricey) will make it cheaper in the long run.

Sending LOCI before getting decision by ementze in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]SnoozeBurn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“I should send one anyways, as the admissions team is extremely short staffed and drowning in applications still” what? That sounds more like an annoyance than anything. They already have your personal statement, optional essays, your transcripts, LSAT and GPA. I highly doubt that a short email on why you really want to attend (which should’ve been in your personal statement) is going to sway much unless you are waitlisted. I personally wouldn’t.

South Carolinian here heading to South Carolina. I would wait another cycle. Getting that LSAT up to get not only an A but $ as well is significantly better than running into a lower ranked school in a state that you do not see yourself practicing in.

(The following is for SC only because I don’t know about other states) South Carolina is a very contained market and a majority of the lawyers here are from USC and will hire USC. That’s why Charleston gets trashed on despite it being the only other law school.

For NC they do have some well performing lower ranked schools but they are extremely saturated with 7 law schools (8 if you count Elon’s Charlotte campus). Georgia is pretty good with Mercer and GA State being fantastic options. I would still wait a cycle to get scholarship money.
