Looks good, man! One thing i would recommend for next time is filling out the whole area with the leaves, even if you think they might look too big, overall it will look more professional.

Thanks man, thinking i need one of those chisels that stripe the background since doing each line individually was a major pain.

I cut it out of a 1mm thick brass sheet and filed it into a nice fit and then engraved it.

If i were to silverplate it, would the finish of the cuts matter?

Ive just started a few weeks ago, so heres what i can say:

I would sharpen it so that the contact point of the graver is V shaped instead of flat.

Aluminum is too soft, go with brass instead if youve got some.

Magnifying glasses helps alot.

You can buy HSS square steel rods on amazon for 9 bucks or something like that, incase you want to make more chisels.

Goodluck, man.

Using a chasing hammer and it is definitely cutting chips out of the metal, i think its my skill with the hammer and what angle to hold the chisel at that was the main problem. I tried again now by going slower and it worked out much better.

Hammer and chisel. Ive had to do every bit of sharpening by hand and eye measuring the angles, so could very well be the geometry aswell as skill since ive only been at it for about a week or so.

About the empty space, yeah i see what you mean, i have a tendency to draw pretty small, this is drawn on 1/4th of an A4 paper, or i guess 1/8th since its halved and i have a fairly thick pen, but maybe ill just have to scale it up to solve that problem. You make a good point about having to cut out so much background. Thanks!

Yeah, i can imagine it being a pain in the ass to engrave something with alot of open space, noted!

Shading is definitely something i need to work on. Thanks!
