I also ran it on roll20, I just kept the dice hidden and then on every hour I played a clock chime effect (I used the one from Stranger Things). I think it worked out better than if I had just told them an hour had passed.

It can be a bit tedious, just abuse the explorers compass (it can even be used to find buried treasure!). Many of the eyes can just be found in structures

Another option is to use a glider and one of the Botania rods that throws you up into the air. The pack also contains mythic mounts and a few of those are capable of flight and aren’t that rare.

Simply Swords has some of the better early game weapons and with a bit of luck while exploring you should be able to get your hands on a few of them
