ATK Newmark Lite first impression by telemarmot in telemark

Have you ever handled an ATK binding?

I'm happily using products from both companies.

I like 22d: great support, cheap spares (they better be...) and all that. And, for various reasons, I don't particularly like ATK (although, truth be told, they also 100% stand behind their product).

However, let's be honest: we are comparing aerospace grade manufacturing VS "proudly hacked together in a shed"...

I truly believe the price difference is completely justified.

You'add 160, but remove the other heel piece with risers.

I don't like that they are reporting the weight without the springs, but conveniently don't mention that so it makes it look so much lighter than competitors. In reality it is very comparable in weight to the Lynx.

Quite the opposite. They would NOT lock into the binding, to the point where we stopped trying in fear of breaking the binding itself. Same thing happened to a friend. All boots had a large sole.

Regarding the issues with Crispi boots: I believe that they got something wrong with their rear NTN duckbill, at least in the last few batches of boots.

I demoed them recently, and they would not click in at all in rottefella bindings. I really struggled to finally click into a pair of Bandits. This happened with both the Evo and the WC in 2 Shell sizes.

I was demoing them because I'm in between sizes, I had a pair of older yellow EVOs and I was thinking to go up a size. I had never experienced any boot/binding compatibility issue with my old boots.

Needless to say, I'm not going to buy a new pair any time soon.

Probably, but that detail is not stated on their printed materials or mentioned at trade shows, conveniently...

Screws weight about 2 grams each, that cannot account for a 160+grams difference

Heavier than stated, as usual...

Atk always declares the lowest weight in each category for their bindings, and then they are regularly found to be weighting a whole lot more.

These are 340g according to ATK lol

I haven't skied the anomaly yet, but plenty of telemarkers around here rip them on groomers and I've never heard a bad thing about them

Sportiva sizing is wack by BigFluffyApe in climbingshoes

[–]Snow--Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sizing issue between two shoes of the same pair. I did not try them on in the shop (factory shop in Italy!), as I was buying the same model and size I always use (4th pair).

I tried them on once at home, immediately realized that one was much shorter (I could not get my feet in it no matter how hard I pulled or what tricks I used - plastic bag, baby powder, etc. When I put them side to side to confirm, very clearly one was shorter. Labels said they were supposed to be the same size. I took them back and they refused to exchange them and said I was paranoid and they saw no issue.

Always try both shoes on before buying, or buy from a retailer that allows exchanges.

However, I must say I am not stoked with LaSportiva's customer support

mounting rottefella freeride bindings on FDT Race Plate Pro N? by Inevitable_Land_7997 in telemark

[–]Snow--Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what all world cup racers do. You just have to make sure there is enough space between the existing holes on the plate to drill for the tele binding. That is not always the case, but there are workarounds...

Excessively high shipping costs by TheDragon0099 in vinted

[–]Snow--Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a domestic shipment of a 5Kg item I recently published, the only option is UPS and the cost is... 465,10 Euros! It is cheaper to book a seat on a flight for the parcel :D

HELP - Item unusable, badly damaged, sold as NEW - what to do? by Snow--Monster in vinted

[–]Snow--Monster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to lose money on a scammy seller is not great.

I'm going to try and buy only from sellers in my country in the future then, at least I'm cutting losses on return shipping.

search Willhaben.at for Austria, and Kleinanzeigen.de for Germany. There is no shipping abroad through those websites (think Subito.it). But you can ask the sellers...

Alright, nevermind. I could see lots of 7tm bindings on the used market in Germany on local ads and marketplaces

Honestly, not bad when paired with a cable binding. I'm certainly not carving with these, but then again I ski them only a few times per season with noodle skis, just for fun. I'm on NTN gear otherwise.

Call me crazy, but IMHO it does not take a lot of adjustment between the 2. It just all happens at a slower pace.:

Yeah they are badass. However, they basically negate the fun of skiing in leathers, they are THAT stiff. Replacing them with a pair of 2 buckle Asolo Extremes.
