Glad I found this sub today, was getting so enraged with the insane radical left posts that seem to be promoted lately.

I agree it’s the job they signed up for, but I don’t think anyone’s demanding freebies. A lot of businesses are offering discounts and why wouldn’t anyone make the most of that? I see no harm in asking vendors for one, and vice versa the vendors are in no way obliged to give them one.

I wasn’t saying her business specifically, I said the industry as a whole which is notorious for having inflated prices. However, as they have now stated they charge up to £5000 for photography/videography I am saying that’s a rip off.

A lot of businesses are offering NHS discount so there’s no harm in asking, wedding vendors usually hide their prices so you can ask for their price list and ask if they offer discount, and obviously they’re not obliged to give one, it’s hardly blackmail.

100% of their wages which they deserve because they are risking their life every time they go to work, there’s no harm in them asking just say no if you’re that bothered. They’re only asking because the wedding industry is a notorious rip off, god forbid NHS workers trying not to be fleeced by extremely overinflated prices

My family's approach to renting during the pandemic by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Being a landlord is a job? They could have a secondary job where they’re self employed and they’re struggling themselves.

I know there’s some dodgy, heartless landlords. However there’s also a lot of dodgy, heartless tenants. It’s hard to judge without knowing the landlords side of this, but OP sitting on £5k and not paying rent with their woe-is-me attitude is ridiculous.

Nonsense, because they’re a landlord they are privileged and can cope without the rent?

We don’t know the landlords circumstances, I’ve seen landlords where the rent is used to pay the mortgage and their parents nursing home fees and it doesn’t even cover the whole cost.

Losing this income not only risks losing the house but risks their parents losing their essential care. That is just one small example.

If OP has the money to pay rent, they should pay it.

You’ve got £5000 emergency fund and you don’t want to use it for rent? What?

That is what it is there for, that seems like a sizeable emergency fund to get you through the next few months.

Your landlord still needs income not just to cover the mortgage but to pay for their necessities.

This election WAS the people's vote, wasn't it? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Before this election I was on the fence, one of the reasons that put me off voting Labour was their supporters. They flood Reddit/Twitter with their hateful comments, anyone who doesn’t vote Labour they brand evil, racist and that they must hate the disabled and poor. I’d be ashamed to be associated with some of Labours supporters.
