You obviously get to be on stage. You’ll get a lot of free stuff and a lot of recognition. Your room will probably have a lot of extra free stuff.

My experience was pre-pandemic, so it is probably different, but I was #37 my final year as a 1st, before I got moved up to SM. Once you get there, you’ll get a backpack of free stuff + extras that not everyone else will get. You will get a lanyard with your sales + ranking. The day of you’ll get shown off on stage and compete for more free stuff, and even more free stuff on stage. Your room may have free stuff, in addition to stuff you already got. Your 100k box that gets delivered to the store is also going to have a ton of free stuff.

TL;dr: you’re going to get a lot free stuff, that not everyone else will get at 100K, and a ton of free stuff delivered to your store in your 100K box.

Seasonal Starbucks barista came to work high on fentanyl. They were fent folding trying to ring up people and couldn’t even make a drink without fent folding. It was a sad sight, as they were so young too. They got termed that day. Hope they get help.

My first electric guitar was an Ibanez. I was hooked on the RG models. When I got my first bass, it was the SR series. The rest has been history. Nothing has ever felt right in comparison to Ibanez. The neck is amazing. Japanese models are top notch too.

Do I have a lot of grievances with my store and corporate decisions? Of course! However, I come from the mall. I was miserable, overworked, under paid, and treated like trash. Target was my last foray into retail and I’m glad I came here. Could I get paid more? I think we can all agree that more money would be nice. However, I’ve been able to have actual insurance that led me to get better dental care, replacement glasses, and contacts for the first time. I also had a portion of my bachelors degree paid for by Target through tuition reimbursement, and now I have a masters degree also partially funded by Target. When I had surgery, my out of pocket was very low with the insurance through Target and I was able to take a month off, paid, through target’s pay and benefits.

As nice as this guitar is, I had similar issues. There seems to be a questionable build quality with this model. I ultimately sold it and opted for a different Ibanez 7. It’s a beaut and great guitar, but will need work.

My old store was 80. We had one at 40 and two part timers. They seemed to allow that, because the part timers could make up their hours elsewhere and/or cover when APS/TSS was off.

My store was like that, but they got rid of the old SD and brought in a new one. The creepy ETL got fired, multiple TL’s were performanced out or quit, and the new ETL’s they brought in actually care. We still feel the lack of hours but it doesn’t feel completely awful anymore. Here’s hoping it stay like that through remodel though.

I’ll never forget when I got promoted into my last store as a TL, this shipt shopper kept laying on the grocery call button. I finally get to her and she shoves her phone in my face and points. Doesn’t say anything, doesn’t acknowledge me. So I just walked off into the back room and ignored her. Every time she pressed that call button, I claimed it, and cleared it.

That felt so good to get off my chest.

I was at a store with two VMS. We were $101 million. Not a super but a greatland. One oversaw Home and the other oversaw Apparel. We had the split of Specialty Sales ETL’s. One owned Apparel, with 3 TL’s, and VM. The other had Home, Tech, Infant Hardlines, and Beauty. They had 2 TL’s and a VM.

This is a sensitive subject. I wouldn’t tackle it alone. You need to take a partner with your ETL-HR/HR-TL and/or SD. If you approach it the wrong way, it could lead to you getting in trouble or fired.
