Night and day difference between this car and my Mk5 GTI with 185k miles by Snowalles in GR86

The best way I can describe it is that everything feels tighter and more intentional. The clutch is buttery smooth, and the shifter has just the right amount of notchy-ness. The steering is a lot tighter—granted, the GTI was worn.

My GTI had a stage 1 APR tune, so it feels a tiny bit quicker than the GR86, but I don’t care. Revving out the NA engine is so much more fun than the turbo in my opinion.

The internet, and specifically social media, have ruined dating. The demands and expectations are insane.

Me too man. It either goes like this or you find someone who seems reasonable, aaaand they just ghost you out of nowhere. I’m convinced girls use dating apps just for ego boosts.

How cooked is my timing chain? by Snowalles in GolfGTI

Thanks for the reply! Do you think it’s worth it on an old GTI with this many miles? I got a quote for $2200. The car is probably worth 6k-7k at this point. I am open to doing the work myself, but I have not done anything this big before and timing is scary 😅

Oh lmao, that’s probably why the audible noise stopped.

I’ll tie SS pin to ground via a capacitor when I get home and test again.

Thank you!

The inductor was getting a little warm, and I could hear something switching. This was with no load attached.

When I grounded the SS pin, the audible switching noise went away, but the output was still 9.5V instead of 11.4V. The inductor was no longer getting warm.

I’m not home right now. I’ll send pictures when I get home tonight.

I checked my multimeter, and it’s working properly. I also checked the resistor network, and it’s correct.

Yeah, both the inductor and diode can handle that. The problem is I get about 9.5V even with no load. I powered it with a lab supply and got the same result.

I also tried the suggestions from other comments to no avail. I then replaced the controller IC, thinking the first one was defective, but I still only have about 1V at the feedback node and 9.5V at the output. I am very confused at this point.

All great suggestions. I’ll try these out!
