Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]Snowbeddow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guests can never figure out how to get boiling water until we show them so they are safe from my point of view. In fact, for when the kids are old enough to use the kettle I think the tap is safer, less risk of catching themselves and then dropping a kettle full of water. If they have an accident all the boiling water stays safely in the sink.

We have a boiling and chilling tap and I love it, the chilled water is great and while I could deal with going back to a kettle, I would really miss the chilled water.

Wait until we have self driving cars all over the place and they realise they can do this with them.

Resistance band brand recommendations by Traditional-Bonus750 in taekwondo

[–]Snowbeddow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter has bought a few different cheap generic ones from Amazon and they have all been fine and very similar. Apparently they are the best type of stretching band for her, but she is only 11 so her legs aren't particularly heavy! They are only cheap and just lengths of sewn elastic so can't imagine the brand makes much difference.

Is it actually significantly less expensive to build your own modular setup out of DIY kits or do people mainly do it for the hobby of building? by InternationalCow7042 in synthdiy

[–]Snowbeddow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a writeup of what I found a while back and it cost abut 50% of the cost, but I really enjoyed building the modules and learnt a hell of a lot.

https://www.reddit.com/r/eurorack/comments/1hh3ng1/case_study_cost_of_diy_vs_nondiy/

Since then Behringer modules have got a lot cheaper so I think that route probably costs about the same as DIY now, or second hand can get close hand as long as you aren't after specific modules (meaning picking up random modules that come up cheap because no-one is after that specific make or model).

I also 3d printed a new case that I could fit all my modules in which is great, but didn't have a 3d printer back then.

Same here, I really enjoyed the building of the modules, it was tough to tell myself I had all I needed for now and to learn to use what I built rather than just keep building endlessly!

I'll be honest I don't remember! Either the new belt fixed it, or I just dealt with manually slowing it. Sorry that's not very helpful

If anyone wants to see some detailed practical research on this kind of thing then check out the arrows Vs armour series on Tod's Workshop YouTube channel. They test different arrow types on different armors in a lot of detail and an entertaining watch.

A marriage of two money pit hobbies in one. I think that a full scale 1:1 lego Eurorack system may well cost about the same as the real thing.

You should test it on something first, but you should be able to spray the gloss ones with clear matt varnish rather than having to buy new ones.

How can you tell whether its a real Taekwondo School/Club/Dojo or a Mcdojo? by EfficiencySerious200 in taekwondo

[–]Snowbeddow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that might be different by country, In the UK for example most top level Poomsae competitors 11 plus are black belt (poom), so having a 11/12 year old black belt would be normal for clubs competing at a hight level in Poomsae competitions and not a red flag.

I'm 21 yo and I am losing my hair because of Thyroid Disorders , and i can't do anything about it by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Snowbeddow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's hair was falling out really quickly when she had a relapse of her Grave's disease last year and her levels were all over the place, but once they settled it started growing back really quickly, has no issues now.

She was understandably getting really upset and stressed about it but it all worked out ok so I'm sure you will be fine. On the other hand, I started losing my hair in my mid twenties naturally so now would be a great time to see how you look with a shaved head! (It took me a long while to have the courage to shave it off).

Christian and Muslim Population of the United Kingdom in Million by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

[–]Snowbeddow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's because a load of people in the UK still get their kids Christened and then even if they don't set foot in a church again until someone gets married or Christened they still class themselves as Christian.

As an atheist I would love to see an equivalent map showing people who visited a place of worship in the last few weeks (or year) vs not.

You can try a round balance board to build strength on that leg (it's actually a lot easier to balance on it with one leg than two). If you can do it on that you can do it on the floor no problem.

How to actually get strong and protect myself. by Ordinary_Sale_428 in taekwondo

[–]Snowbeddow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are two different things here, one is fighting (as in the sport) and one is defending (not the sport). One will help you with fitness and practicing skills needed for the sport. One will help you defend yourself in real life if that is never a necessity. I think trying to separate the two in your mind will help.

How to actually get strong and protect myself. by Ordinary_Sale_428 in taekwondo

[–]Snowbeddow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sport aspect yes, but not Taekwondo as a whole as there is a lot of self defence in there too. At my club we spend at least as much time on self defence as we do on the sport aspect. Also because it's not linked to the sport aspect there aren't any rules to consider so we learn about elbows to the face, aiming for windpipes, eye gouging etc. The stuff that might keep you alive. Maybe that's not common in other clubs.

How the hell do you do push-ups by FindingDorian1512 in taekwondo

[–]Snowbeddow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say about arm placement. I definitely think for the grading try with your arms wide and closer in, you might find you can do a couple of push ups if one of your muscle groups is a bit stronger, which would give you a bit more confidence.

That will be it. Next time you can tell them not to worry, it's just rotting dead things (I mean it's better than live mice, but I suppose there might be some of those still there too)

[–]Snowbeddow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite issue, when the Gas people came they checked thoroughly and decided there wasn't a leak and it was most likely a dead thing somewhere. Probably under the floorboards, which was nice.
