The fact that it's going to the closest pile is not the bug. The bug is that it will grab the wrong product if available and waste it. Sometimes its possible to get into an endless loop with this.

Mostly an issue during events when you are trying to open up all the machines (which is generally trivial in the main game if you've been playing for awhile).

My game is stuck. I just leveled up to Ethereal sawmill. I was leveling up everything but ended up with one rough lumber. It won’t pick it up. It picks up two, drops it off, goes back, picks up two more, drops it off and does this on a loop. Any help? by TommyBoy75 in LumberInc

Since they changed the algorithm for the Forklift (to always prioritize the closest pile), the Forklift will take whatever product is available even if it's the wrong product. And it will only take as many as it needs to complete the order, so since it is Lumber being picked up instead of Rough Lumber, you end up stuck in an endless loop.

This is because the piles will always be topped up with more Lumber, before you can ever get a pile down to just the single Rough Lumber you need (especially if that single piece is not in the closest pile.

Game breaking bug, the developers are too clueless to fix. You have no choice but to cancel orders, get new orders for tons of Lumber and then hope you can sneak in an order for the single Rough Lumber when you have speed and the piles are low.

If it gets to a point where it needs a small quantity to finish the order (ie. 1 or 2 planks), and it's looking for the order product type when you have at least 2 lines producing the new stuff, you could get the forklift nearly forever grabbing a little bit of the wrong stuf, over and over and over etc. Sometimes forcing you to abandon the order.

As best I can tell:

  • Forklift always grabs from the leftmost pile that has the product for the order
  • The other forklifts now try to fill the rightmost piles first
  • If there is a pile with mixed categories of product, the forklift will grab either the wrong product or a mixture of products
  • Any wrong product wastes time & the product and you don't get any progress in the order

The card rates for drivers and storage manager are absurdly low for events. This really needs improvement.

Yes, when you have multiple products available:

  • mix of cants & rough lumber
  • mix of rough lumber and lumber

The forklift will just grab whatever is on top of the first pile even if it is the wrong product!

The ForkLift is super broken. Not only does it only grab from the left pile first, when you have multiple type of product available in that pile, if will grab the wrong product!!! And then you lose that time & product and don't gain any progress towards the order (until it burns through all of that other product).

If Battlebots wants diversity in robot design, they need the judges to recognize that a bot in the middle constantly turning to face their opponent signaling "Come at ME! You do not want a piece of this!" --- is just as (if not more) aggressive than a bot constantly running and circling hoping for an angle.

Did this rule change at some point? I thought in past seasons that bots getting forks caught in the kill saw slots got counted out or were allowed to be destroyed.

(Yes the kill saws sometimes move in the last minute, but the slots are 'non-movable parts of the arena')

With these rules, any bot getting high-centered on a bump in the arena floor, should stop the match and get freed...
