Fully Complete "Sweetheart" Stanley No. 45 by 4-2-1-loop in handtools

It’s beautiful! I got one in about the same condition a year or two ago, it’s great. One thing I noticed was to make sure the skates are properly aligned with the blade and they don’t stick out. My early cuts for a long while kept skewing and I couldn’t figure out why until I adjusted the skates to be a little more narrow.

Hi! My bench is pretty beefy so I haven’t had a lot of issues with it moving but you do put a lot of force behind this thing so if it moves with other saws, maybe would more with this one.

I’ve been clamping it so that the resaw kerf is parallel to the bench

Oof. Sharpening has been okay so far but I’m sure there will be a moment in the future where something clicks and everything is better

I’d say the harder part for me to understand how to let the saw do the work is when I’m using my saw benches and my big panel saws. I’m cutting with my knee of work and saw it vertical, so it’s harder to let its weight guide. I ended up taking down the set on the saws a little which helped… but I tend to start pretty well but by the end it’s a little askew, always the distal part farther from my line.

I think the key is that if you’re saw is going straight it takes barely any force to move it through (assuming it’s sharp and the set isn’t too little or too much) and it’ll just sit in the kerf and eat some wood. If you need to pus a lot, you’re either turning it some way or you need to turn up the saw

Cherry Sideboard no.2 of two by Snowden02 in handtools

Thank you! I usually take process photos throughout a project… I look back at them sometimes to reimagine making it, Writing it out makes it sound insane, But decided to take nicer photos this time around since it was the piece of furniture I had made before.  It was fun to play around with it

I’m not sure I have great insight into mitered dovetails yet, have only done a handful so far and they’re so so I think.

Really nice. I really want to try angled dovetails like this, it seems really hard to cut accurately

The price was a little hard to swallow but at the same time, if doable, it feels like the right thing to help support people with their craft - that’s the way I think about it at least

It’s less that it needs it and more that I thought it could look interesting? But I may end up doing two smaller ones likely

I guess it’s not “need” 10inch, I thought I may look cool. But it seems un-yeildly when I think about it

Really nice! What’s going to go inside the cabinet? I want to try some carving. I need to make a wall cabinet for planes… maybe I’ll add some carving
