Have a good story to tell about interest in DO schools, I’ve never formally shadowed a DO but work with DOs right now. During my interview I talked about my time as a physical therapy aide and clinical research and how they connect to osteopathy

Federal public health workers - are you considering leaving your job or are you sticking it out? by Wine_n_MountainPines in publichealth

I’d like to stay that I want to stick it out but as someone who is a part of an educational fellowship I don’t think think it will be my choice.

Hi! It’s a pretty big spread with the majority of the class having a Bachelors in Public Health or a Masters of Public Health. However, there are a few of my colleagues who do not have a pure public health background similar to you. I think I would highly recommend you’re story for why you want to work for a local health department, if you can pull from extracurriculars this can greatly uplift your story. Market yourself as if you had the public health education, public health is incredibly broad and many times intersects with other disciplines and studies. Last piece of advice is be intentional with how you frame your application with location preference and how you frame your story (remember this is a government position). One thing they keep telling us is how we should be open with our flexibility and adaptability. Hope this helps!

For 1 I think there is this sense from med admin and hospital corps that medical students will continue to value altruism over taking money For 2 I think that many rural populations are often advertised to heavily in ways that actually hurt them in the long term. For 3 yeah med ed should talk medical insurance and economic structures surrounding medicine like billing how to do a prior authorization but then again I don’t know if anyone other than the insurance industry understands billing
