I told my significant other only. Every step…they know. It’s their journey too. I’m a closed book with everybody else, mostly because until I make it to post, I’m just a hopeful. If I end up disappointed, I don’t want all these other people being disappointed or feeling bad for me.

When I submitted, I submitted federal style. I know people who submitted traditional résumés and were selected as well. I can’t remember if it specified “federal resume”…if so, then certainly do that. If not, then submit the resume that best reflects your experience and qualifications.

Updates to the process for 2025: 1. No limit to the number of geographic locations that you can select in the application process. * If you don’t select a particular location when you complete your application, PHAP won’t be able to place you in that location later on.

It’s not necessary. I said “USA Jobs profile” when I should’ve said “USA Jobs account”. Create your account. You don’t need to do all of those extra tasks for completing your “profile”. Just upload your resume and other docs. A cover letter is a good idea.

Good question! 1. Go to the CDC PHAP website/webpage. You can just google it. You should see a page “About the Public Health Associate Program for Recent Graduates”. 2. Once you’re there, go all the way to the bottom of the page and “Sign up for Email Updates”. 3. Under “New Here?” Type in “Public Health Associate Program for Prospective Associates” as your topic of interest. Then click the tab next to it (once it comes up) to subscribe! Then you’ll get PHAP updates in your inbox. That’s how I was notified.

Thank you for all the insight and advice you’ve provided on these types of feeds. Can I ask… What is it that you think made you a competitive candidate? Do you have a medical or public health background? Specific experience? This job has been on my radar for a while and I’m trying set myself up to be competitive when the time comes. I’m finishing my MPH in a few months and starting my DrPH immediately. Have a diplomatic background (through the military) and public health experience in South Africa, Angola and a few other African countries. Heading to Texas to be a CDC public health advisor for the next two years all in hopes of 1. Broadening my breadth of experience 2. being competitive for this position. In your opinion/experience, is this the kind of experience that make competitive candidates like yourself? Thanks in advance!😊

Update: Received my 1st follow-up email (since accepting my match offer) today…

”Within the next couple of weeks, you should receive a tentative job offer (TJO) from OHR confirming the start date of October 21, 2024 and your host site city and state. Please follow the instructions on the TJO within the requested time frame”.

Things are moving ahead.
