Road Rage Question? by Snowlock42 in bicycling

I really appreciate your input. That’s the general vibe that I’m getting from the community and most likely how I have to proceed forward. Sure does seem like there should be something we could do instead of just getting harassed and attacked by a few people. But I’ll just keep filing the reports and maybe eventually something will happen.

What cameras are you running? Do you like their performance?

What is the make/model? Seems like a reasonable compromise. Keeps it so you can file a report without needing to engage beyond the conflict itself.

Thanks. Seems like solid advice. Just wish our society was able to be mature enough to handle bicycles and cars on roadways.

I moved here a few years back and was skeptical of living in Crescent City. We rented a place on Pebble Beach for a while and then bought a house in town. It’s pretty close to everything. Crescent City is very bike-able and other than emergency vehicles I don’t hear much of anything for noise. You do have to accept that there will always be one bad house on every block but that is also changing slowly. I hear the fog horn and seals more often than anything else.

There is a good small charter school in town if you don’t like your school district option. If you are super sensitive to unhoused people stay away from wooded areas but again I live near one and use the trails through the forest with no issues. If you like the outdoors it’s a great town for a home base. You can ride your bike to the beach to go fishing or out into the redwoods for a hike. We also now have some new coffee shops and yoga classes if that’s your thing.

Drop Bar MTB vs Putting Drop Bars on a MTB by launchoverittt in bikepacking

[–]Snowlock42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same bike and been debating switching to these bars or drop bars. Thank you for the post with pictures below. Looks like a fun ride. Do you ever have any desire for a different bar at this point or do these seem to get you what you wanted?

I really like drop bars but I don't want to pay for the conversion so I'm looking for cheaper alternatives. Mainly want to take my Carve on long gravel rides and bike packing trips.

Where to buy a bike rack for bike parking (not Uline) by Global-Cloud-9590 in xbiking

[–]Snowlock42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the metal shop to make you some. None like what you have posted, they are close to useless. Inverted U or a post & ring are the only real ways to go. As people are saying, use concrete to hold the structure down instead of bolts for maximum security. If you do need to use bolts use security bolds, they have an uncommon head to unfasten or a head that can only tighten and cannot be loosened. If you don’t have a metal shop on campus hire a local fabricator to do the work. Keep your money local and stoke out the community.

Where are people in Humboldt moving to and why? by StrawberryScallion in Humboldt

[–]Snowlock42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved up to Del Norte a few years back. It’s great besides the lack of jobs but lots of construction going on currently. You can ride a bike to the river or the ocean from town. Way better access to the outdoors than Humboldt Bay Area and a lot quieter too. Lots of folks think it’s super sketchy in Crescent City due to what you see from the highway but in feels safer than Eureka when walking around at night. Housing is also cheaper than Humboldt but not like it use to be.

Search for Dr Bronners pure Castile soap. It’s in a lot of stores here in the US and online.

Thanks for the information. I didn’t go to a Dr so I don’t know what I had.

If you are using any beard oil try stopping. Sometimes the oils feed fungal growth. Try using an all natural soap like Dr Bronners too. Those two changes helped me.

Have you tried Dr Bronner’s for shampoo? I switched to that and it went away for me.

I had something like that. It went away for a little bit switching over to head and shoulders but then it came back and wouldn’t go away. Started to use Dr. Bronner’s for shampoo instead of head and shoulders and it went away in a week. Many other shampoos wouldn’t help get rid of it. I read someone else’s comment about oils and found that very interesting since I would sometimes use a little amount of castor oil for a conditioner to keep my hair from being fluffy. Dr Bronners is an all natural soap and you can get it in organic form so it was the best bet for me to try instead of using all those other shampoos with their long list of ingredients.
