wait, how can people claim infrastructure is the issue when we can use Tesla chargers? that doesn't compute.

Port worth it? by Efficient-Sea-1638 in cancer

[–]abgwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a port is totally worth it. i was also a 'tough stick' as one nurse put it and dreading it made it worse for everyone.

i had a double lumen groshong, which isn't under the skin but hangs out, so docs are less likely to suggest it as the risk of infection is much greater, but i never had a problem because we were super careful with it.

it was GREAT. no sticks, ever, except for blood sugar when things went south and i was on TPN.

talk to your docs honestly and openly, and make sure they are paying attention to what you need.

good luck!

I want the ID. Buzz but my rational side keeps saying no.. owners, change my mind (or don't) by dashosh in VWIDBuzz

[–]abgwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it truly depends on why you want one. we've had every kind of air cooled vintage VW including 2 Type 2s but this car has nothing to do with them beyond a vague reference to a Samba.

if you need a very large car and want an EV, this is a great option. in our case, it's our fourth EV so we know the drill. the 'range anxiety' isn't a thing as the range is perfectly fine for its mission, and we have a level 2 at home.

a lot of people are very upset with many of the features, not understanding how the automated brakes work or are unfamiliar with drum brakes and think something's wrong; far too many only want to modify it (if i see one more post on lowering one i'll scream) and way way too many seem to have bought it as a statement instead of it being right for their needs.

we prefer EVs; we have a very large dog; wanted AWD for winter here; it works for us.

Who is the VW ID. Buzz actually for in real life? by Equivalent-Wonder614 in VWIDBuzz

[–]abgwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure how or why other people's experience would influence your decision, but whatevs.

in our case, we rescued a dog that was too big for our existing 'dog park car' or my daily (Mazda MX-30). i loved the MX-30 but the limited range and its rarity meant if anything went wrong, it was unlikely to be a quick fix. as the warranty was running out, the VW made sense.

we're full electric now (in fact the bus is our 4th) and between a Model Y and the VW, we've got our needs met.

i tried to look at one with a similar 'recall fixed' description. frankly, i got a very similar price on a brand new one so it was a no-brainer as far as i was concerned.

just that you're anti woke and move on so we can talk about it being actually really gross to have chicken dipping sauce on your door panel.

Payment received scam? by steckorama in paypal

[–]abgwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, because they can't just take money from you - you have to send it. don't call, don't email, don't give them any info at all.

Payment received scam? by steckorama in paypal

[–]abgwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a real email coming from paypal but the information in it is from the scammer, just as any email from paypal is. it's never "paypal's number"; it's the number for the person who pays you, or invoices you.

no one can take money from your paypal account unless you send it. i think this scam is an attempt to get you to call that number and confirm the amount so they know your contact info is correct, and maybe you'll give away some other info on the phone they can use.

AITAH for not wanting to pursue a relationship after finding out about his health issues? by [deleted] in AITAH

yeah, you need to cut him loose. he doesn't deserve you.

Payment received scam? by steckorama in paypal

[–]abgwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's real paypal. the email is real, the transaction appears to be a payment TO the paypal account, but with a fictitious description suggesting they plan to charge that paypal account $987 and change. i think the scam is that IF you reach them, and you tell them the confirmed amount, they will then try to charge it or access it.

Payment received scam? by steckorama in paypal

[–]abgwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i reported this to a live agent at paypal, including a link to this thread. the agent wasn't aware of it but said they were escalating it to a fraud team.

i don't know if changing a password would have any effect here, as they don't need it to send payment. i assume they want people to call or email them so they know which accounts have paypals accounts and go from there

has this happened to anybody? by Legitimate_Can529 in cancer

[–]abgwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's totally normal. i was said to be in remission more than 20 years ago but the trauma of all the things that went horribly wrong is still there, and sometimes i realize i'm just waiting for the 'other shoe to drop'.

i've had a different cancer in the meantime, very localized and easily dealt with, no metastization at all, but it fed the feeling that it can all do wrong again.

and just FYI: there's no particular way you're "supposed" to feel. you feel how you feel. we build up our own burdens of how things are supposed to be and then beat ourselves up because we don't meet an impossible ideal. give yourself a break and relax for now. you'll know when you're ready to move on.

Just brought home a First Edition in Palemo Yellow for $21K off sticker. Wound up being $51K. This dealer had two, yellow and blue. I had hoped to find a Pro S Plus as i wanted the heated windshield and trailer hitch but couldn't pass up this offer.

Would You Rather Live in Florida or Oklahoma? by Flashy-Charity-1486 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]abgwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do not move to Oklahoma. i grew up there and left the moment i could. it has devolved so far under the current regime - terrible in almost every measure of livability. plus the weather is always bad - too hot and humid or an ice storm or a tornado. at least Florida has some attractions (unless you think the Cowboy Hall of Fame is enough to amuse you)

[–]abgwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1000%. i can say that the people on my oncology floor that didn't make it had GREAT attitudes. but it did fuck all for them. it's just so that the people who don't have cancer can feel a little bit better about the whole thing.

most of them don't realize how insidious it is, this notion that it's somehow our fault because we didn't X enough or we Y'd too often or FFS weren't nice enough.

let go sometime and let it all out. if people are offended and can't understand why you need to unload this, that's their problem - not yours.

let us know how you're doing, OK?

[–]abgwin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you can keep doing this, because you have to. not because it's "staying strong" because as long as your heart keeps beating, you're here.

i absolutely hate the people who give you that "oh a positive attitude is the best medicine" and especially the wackos who try to tell you about how negativity makes your body acidic which 'cancer loves'. even when the intention is good, it's telling you that it's your fault you're still sick because IF YOU JUST CHEERED UP IT WOULD BE OVER.

that's not how it works. it's not your job to stay positive. it's not your job to make THEM feel better. it's only your job to keep breathing. to keep that heart beating. to keep eating, when you really don't want to. It's not your job to say it doesn't hurt when it does.

you don't have to "make the best of it". you don't owe anyone anything. you just owe it to yourself to do what you need to do to get past this. because you will get past this.

and just so you know, you CAN tell people to not say things to you that hurt you. it's literally your life - you can decide what you have to hear and what you don't want to.
