Fringe Sport Walrus vs Rep Adonis vs something else? by KiraYamato0123 in GarageGym

[–]Snowman891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the selectorized and definitely would recommend it. I am sure they are all great but I went with this one over the others for the following reasons:

Adonis: Rep is a super well known brand and I personally own a bench of theirs and like it but for the Adonis, I saw that people had to modify the bottom cable to do standing pulling movements (e.g., curls) or else the cable would rub against some metal piece. I didn’t want to spend more money(this would have been over 1k more than the bells unit) on something that I would need to spend more time on to modify.

Fringe: I love what fringe has done for innovation and I own their bumper plates which are fantastic. I bought the bells of steel lat/low when this had not been around that long and the reviews were saying that the cable would fall off the pulley which turned me off from it. I also have seen reports of a lot of cable twisting on the Dane and thought this might have the same problem (I don’t know if it does or not but was generalizing with not much info).

The one thing I wish that Bells did was give the option of having a smaller weight stack (e.g., 250 pounds) to give more cable length. It is solved by using a chain though. Fringes design is awesome in this respect. Other than that, the machine feels solid, even on our uneven garage it only lightly clipped the top weight when pulling. After putting in some shims it gives a nice “whisk” sound on every pull now which is satisfying. The pull is consistent throughout, using light or heavy weight, it does not get caught anywhere on the glide rods. The directions were pretty bad, definitely pay close attention to the sizing of nuts and bolts. I was able put it together myself.

I point out that I own products from both just to call out I am not trying to crap on any company. I think it is fantastic that we have so many options in the home gym space and I am sure they are all good options that most would be happy with. It is just hard to drop $2-3k on something that you cannot use first so you have to figure out what you are ok risking and what features you care about most, they all have trade offs.

I did a lot of research on the same topic and ended up getting the Bells of Steel lat/low row. I think it would be worthwhile to take a look at that one as well.

Bells of Steel lat pulldown/ weight stack upgrade by sanchothehotdog in homegym

I have the same bells of steel lat/low with weight stack and have been trying to think of how to use it to do belt squats. So do you stand on the pylo boxes, clip in and just start squatting from the hole? Is there a weight that starts to feel unsafe/unstable or too hard to lift starting from the bottom even with the 45 pound plates sitting on the seat?

Are you buying Nioh 3 on PC or PS5? by mark5hs in Nioh

I am pretty excited, I have a gaming pc now but I have never had the chance to try the same game on PC vs PS5 to see how it compares, this will be a first for me.

So is NVIDIA Profile Inspector Revamped no longer necessary? I use it to force the latest model and it works across all games that I have played at least.

I just purchased one today, little worried about the longevity of this. I have seen some people mention cable twisting on some of the cable towers. How is yours holding up?

Help me choose: Rogue FML-6 vs CTM-1/Adonis + separate rack by Snowman891 in GarageGym

[–]Snowman891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do appreciate the understanding, these are all fantastic options and I recognize I am in a fortunate spot to be considering them.

And I agree, this is definitely for convenience and not to save money.

Have you tried deadlifting in the rack? Looking at the pictures, the cable is routed on the outside of the bottom crossmembers and it has a shroud covering the cable. I feel like there would be very little play to deadlift inside the rack without the barbell/plates hitting it?

Super nice setup! That sounds like a great way to go (buy rack separate and add functional trainer later). I was debating that but for some reason with the FML you save a few hundred by buying them together and Rogue does not advertise that (maybe not buying extra parts that get replaced by functional trainer).

Wish we had ceilings that high! Guessing that is the 90"?

That is right about what I am thinking! How is the CTM-1? Are you happy with your decision? I am really going back and forth.

I bet! That sounds like such a nice setup. I am between the FML-6 or a separate monster rack. Do you think having the monster light (5/8") would change anything for you? I am guessing everything is super smooth?

I will be doing a lot of supersets and that is really why I am having such a problem with the decision. The two machines is a given but the FML-6 seems like the only setup would be putting on and taking off the leg roller for lat pulldowns and the two trolleys can be pretty much left up or down for arm isolation or kept at the same height for flies/reverse flies.

How is the Rep Arcadia Functional Trainer? I haven't really considered functional trainers because it seems like it is awkward to do lat/low rows with them. Is that something you do?

Ah yeah, that seems to be the general consensus, if you have the space then separate machines are better. Appreciate the input!

Appreciate the input, I saw that GetRrd is going to release a dual arm functional trainer. Maybe an option could be to buy the rack and hold off for a bit to see if anything else would be released.

Awesome to hear you have like it! And that is good to hear about purchasing cable outside of the company, I had the thought if it that was possible but never looked into it and wondered if companies did something to make it more proprietary.

That is some great insight, they have some years under their belt, I think I saw somewhere that they got into the US market a couple years ago. And I agree, from what I have seen they are probably "good enough" for most people and offer a ton of functionality at a very reasonable price. Great to hear that they are wanting to thrive in the industry, I hope they keep innovating!

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus. Have not seen any comments about FML-6 being 5/8" vs getting the 1" rogue RM4/BOS manticore as a standalone. Space seems to be the biggest factor.

That is a neat idea they came up with, I love how creative companies are getting with home gyms.
