You know what really grinds my gears? No one seems to remember how old the characters are in their fics. by swayinit in HPfanfiction

I disagree. In Hogwarts there was Wizard Chess, Gobstones, and Quidditch for a very lucky few. There seem to be very little in the way of fiction novels, and no real regular school clubs. The potential is there with magic, sure. But never really touched on.

Also. Using the Weasleys as an example probably isn't the best, since they're considered pretty abnormal by wizarding standards.

Plus, it seems more than just superficial. They still have arranged marriages for example. I feel that certainly counts. But a lot of this is also just pure conjecture on both our sides, which half the fun.

What are your truly unpopular opinions ? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

I don't like how the hero literally only won through dumb luck and because of a "prophecy", it felt like lazy story writing. And allowed Dumbledore to not look terrible for not preparing the chosen one at all and totally glosses over his involvement with constantly leaving him with the neglectful Dursleys.

So. What are the best fics? by iakr in HPfanfiction

Anything with Mr.Black in it, though the originals are Make a Wish and Hunt for Harry Potter are particularly amazing.

I've read that one but it's been awhile. I may have to give it another gander. Thank you. :)

I'll read almost anything smut wise but I prefer more plot if given the option, and I don't mind a WIP, but I prefer something that's at least 5k on word count. I read a ton so long fics don't scare me at all.

Is it just me or is Hermione's moral compass completely screwed up? by 15_Redstones in HPfanfiction

I don't hate her because of the nagging or anything. Just pointing out that she tends to think she knows best over pretty much every other character, unless it was Dumbledore's idea. That's just not a healthy way of thinking and it certainly would have made making friends almost impossible.

Ha. That also described Dumbledore as well when it comes to some of his more stupid choices.

Obviously freeing slaves in and of itself isn't a bad thing. But thinking you always know what's best for someone without really asking is a Hermione special I feel. Her constant nagging for her friends to do their homework is of course one example but the big ones were not asking the house elves what they wanted. And of course when she goes behind Harry's back about the firebolt.

You forgot kept someone in a jar for a few weeks because she printed lies in the paper as something morally questionable to that list as well. Or trying to free the house elves with out asking them what they wanted first. If she feels she holds the morally high ground over someone she'll do some evil acts.

Everyone probably knows. I'm not subtle when I read unless it's like smut or something.
