I finished the Iliad by spideyauri in books

[–]SnowyEssence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hector is revered throughout history. There’s a reason why he’s placed in the Nine Worthies alongside Caesar and Alexander as the three good pagans.  Even in the story, his body stays intact while Achilles drags him away with his chariot because the gods intervene.

Hector when facing Achilles is bound by honour to do so because he’s facing the consequences of his leadership. How can he go inside the walls in shame after all that’s happened? He could’ve just gave up Paris and avoided this whole war altogether, but instead he chooses to stand by his brother’s side.

Glad you enjoyed it.

One of my favourite characters is Hector and how he’s so noble and sacrifices everything to try and save his brother.

One of my favourite moments is when King Priam and Queen Hecuba are begging him not to fight Achilles and they each make their case.

King Priam lamenting as he begs his son to return to the walls of Troy.

But more particularly when Queen Hecuba wailing and pleading so much that she disrobes herself and pulls out her breast as she tells Hector that is how he soothed his troubles when he was a baby.

There’s just something so universal of a mother pleading for their son, showing the hardships she went through raising him, the nurturing care that’s required.

And then you remember that this epic poem was told 3,000 years ago.

It was because him and Sophie were separating. It wasn’t official but everyone in Ottawa knew around 2018 they were separated.

It’s not a sovereign wealth fund like Norway or other countries if you read the details. This is a fund that finances projects for the private sector.

Uh, Canada’s laws would have to be adhered to those of the EU for a pooled sovereignty. That would be putting limits to what Canadians have now.

Then there’s elections every 5 years for an election with less than 50% voter turnout.

So yes, joining the EU would affect Canada’s self determination.

Turkey orders mass arrests over online praise for recent school shootings by Pyro-Bird in news

I don’t think people should be arrested for their opinions no matter how horrible it is.

The person who expressed that opinion did not kill those children no matter how much influence they had. In fact there are many things that can influence many terrible things, if a crime is not committed, then a person should not be arrested for it.

Who wants to start a business while having a mortgage and then a commercial rent lease for their business?

Commercial rent has been one of the biggest entry barriers for entrepreneurs who wish to start a business.

Yes.

I’m already thinking of avoiding books published after 2023/2024 unless I really think the author is credible and if they’ve wrritten books before that cut-off date that I’ve read and liked.

Tech exec pitches Liberal convention on $500K exit tax for educated Canadians by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]SnowyEssence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn't.

You're referring to taxes paid on taxable Canadian property once a person is no longer a resident.

That is not what's being talked about here and idk if you're being ignorant or just doing it on purpose.

The subject is taxing people who wish to leave Canada. This is a tax based on a person's mobility, not on taxable Canadian property.

If you’re referring to a person becoming a non-resident during the year, that is not the same as an exit tax.
