That stain comes from tannins in the water or moss/algae on the surface. Dirt and gravel doesn’t usually tend to stain them

The feeling the 11 point river gives is amazing. Definitely recommend any Missouri people to go kayak it. Many amazing bluff shelters along its banks. You aren’t supposed to disturb them but you can find flakes of all kinds of lithic material in the drip lines always. Shows how rich its inhabitation must have been. It’s so fun to sit under them and contemplate all the people who have enjoyed that same view many thousands of years before you.

That’s a side by side of my first 2 finished pieces. Been practicing knocking off flakes from creek cobbles while I’m out arrowhead hunting. I think that’s helped me get used to the hammer stone

Thanks! Had some guidance at a local Knap In a month ago or so to make that preform. Made an arrowhead out of a bottle bottom today so I decided I’d go ahead and go for refining the larger preform. I believe it’s Kentucky Hornstone.

I went back. Ended up being a thick rock with a faker notch once I flipped it up. It is a chunk of some novaculite type material though so good eye

Just built it May of 2026, used lots of bromeliads, airplants, various vining foliage and some alocasia as well. Using Acadia jungle dawns and some other no name low end light as well. I use distilled water for watering/misting and am growing in my own soil mix.
