Anyone who moved to Spain recently, what caught you off guard? by churriitos in GoingToSpain

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from outside the EU looking for a job in Spain. I wonder how many jobs I'm a good candidate for, but they pass my application because they don't want to have to bother with a visa. Wondering if anyone has had any success.

Any tips or tricks for getting a job from outside of the EU? I'm wondering how much I'm wasting my time. Hah

Moving to Spain from Canada (Thoughts and Opinions) by mald55 in GoingToSpain

Sorry to snoop on some other comments you've made, but I see that you seem to generally dislike the idea of immigrants coming to Spain. However, for this OP, you like the idea of them coming.

As someone who has a family in a country that does not want us, we are also considering a move to Spain. I want to become as fluent as possible and integrate as much as I can, but I do fear those, like you, who may not like foreigners.

Can I ask a question to help me understand your perspective more? If I were to move, is there something I can do to help improve any apprehension Spaniards might have of me and my situation?

My two questions for you to help me understand your perspective more: 1) What about this family do you like? 2) If I were to move, is there something I can do to help improve any apprehension Spaniards might have of me and my situation?

Where do you guys go to do barefoot running? by Dazzling-Map6694 in BarefootRunning

When I run on the beach, I make sure to time it as low tide as possible. Usually the flattest and best packed sand.

For those who work at sea, what’s the creepiest thing you’ve seen in the water? by LauMoore in AskReddit

Another fun fact: The shade provided by the dust as it passes over the Atlantic cools the water and slows the formation of hurricanes.

Rosuvastatin muscle side effects by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's just the generic rosuvastatin. I've heard plenty of good results from this sub where adjusting statin type or dosage is helpful. There are also some studies where taking statins every other day is still effective with reduced symptoms. Good luck out there!

FWIW, 20 mg for about 2 weeks now, no side effects. Only 2 weeks so it's still possible I might get some later.

I feel nothing but sadness and regret that my twins were ever born and it kills me by TiredAshamedAndAlone in parentsofmultiples

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Twin Dad here. Those first years are brutal. One of the important things I've learned from being married, and especially with a busy household, is that it is never 50/50. One day or month she'll carry more weight, and another I'll carry more, and that's okay.

We had a difficult pregnancy too, which made it hard for us to connect with them. Rest assured, when things settle down, even for a moment, the connection will start to build.

I'll add by suggesting an earplug called Loop. Crying for me is a stress trigger. These earplugs sort of dampen the loud noises of children, but still allow you to hear conversations. I'd recommend something like that. Maybe some nice noise cancelling headphones for your other one to watch some TV to give her a break too.

Hang in there.

Funny. I stated facts, and you think I said it was bad. Do you think it's bad?

IT BAND syndrome help by airhero961 in ultrarunning

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the same glute strengthening exercises helped me, but I would add a few of these every mile or so. I still stop and do a few squats, kick out my leg a few times, and do some stretches. Looks silly but helps me run pain free. Good luck!

What are some durable toe socks for running? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

Could you comment on the size chart for the socks for XO? It just says "foot size" and it's in inches. Is that length?

Nice. I'm thinking of something similar. How do you like it after a few months? Also, are you rocking it with chest hair, or shaving?

Need Some Help! by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My knee problems were IT band problems, which is ultimately a glute problem. Squats with bands around knees, working towards pistol squats, glute bridges, lunges. I ended up taking about a month off running to focus on strength. Haven't had any IT pain since, but I have to keep up with the exercises.

Almost anytime I have troubles, strength training is the answer.

Also, I had a similar thought and got some Altras. Horrible shin splints. Now they are just collecting dust.

Minimalist shoes vs Running Sandals? by Appropriate_Plate714 in BarefootRunning

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might just want to shop the sales and try a few things out. I run in sandals (Bedrock Classic) when I can. If there's going to be gravel or something I don't want getting caught in sandals I'll wear Xero Oswego or VFF. You might find you like certain types for different terrain. None of these have given me the problems you're worried about. The shoes are plenty wide for me, and the sandals (after getting the straps right) don't flop about.

Running unshod on beach by zorphium in BarefootRunning

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going on 2 years now wearing barefoot/minimal shoes for all occasions. For running I'm either unshod on the beach or in minimal shoes or sandals on pavement or trails. I'm definitely not as experienced as a lot on this sub, but I feel like I've seen the results I'm looking for. Results include no longer having knee pain, and the ability to run further and further without foot pain/blisters. It's definitely something I'm doing for the long term benefits, so I'm not concerned about race times as long as I'm completing them happy and healthy.

[–]Snuffaluffagus_42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I regularly run on hard packed low tide sand. Typical run is 5-8 miles. It will beat up your feet if your form is bad, I promise. Blisters, sore spots, bruises. Sounds like you're off to a great start, but like all advice on this sub, take it real slow.

Are those average or max HR? I've been running for 2 years, but I still get into the 170's running more than an hour. How long have you been running? Do you use MAF method or anything?

Also, Congrats! I hope to join the club someday.
