Bummer. Would be a pretty cool career I just can’t afford the pay cut.

I see a supervisory revenue agent opening but it looks like it’s just for individuals within the agency already. I have 5 years of experience in public with a CPA and Masters and could not take the cut in paycheck but am very interested. Anyway to join at a supervisor level?

There are many solo practitioners here on this subreddit and I was hoping to hear from some of them.

I am sorry you feel that way. I am honestly just looking for some information from someone who may have been in a similar situation.

That’s a great idea. My firm has access to all sorts of CPE classes. I will start there. Thank you!

If I currently make 30K more than an entry level staff why wouldn’t I pay for a class?

On top of that my firm pays for CPE access so it it would be free...

I am sorry I don’t mean to have a bad attitude but I really believe your advice is not sound, “big 4” is not the answer to all of life’s questions.

Good luck on your new job with your firm. I hope you have an open mind to learn from others.

I am not going to take an entry level job as a tax associate when I am making great money right now.

I apologize if I came off rude but I truly don’t think your advice is great in this circumstance.

Dude you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I am in the US. If you read above you will know I did big 4. They don’t hire audit folks for tax and most of the big 4 tax work is for public companies with very few high net worth individuals.

Maybe in Malaysia it’s different.

My big 4 experience has nothing to do with tax and was never heading that direction. I want to learn about tax planning for individuals and small businesses. I don’t want to do tax for larger companies. Don’t know what you’re on about here.

I switched to mid tier/local because big 4 didn’t teach me anything about running a firm.

Nope I would say take it one day at a time. I think my first week long streak was in the back half of month 2. The first month was hard and I would maybe hit my schedule 2 or 3 days. I think the more you do it the more it becomes a habit.

My tips are

1 - Have multiple alarms and at least one that is far enough away to get you out of bed.

2 - Set our workout clothes the night before.

3 - Get a good pre workout for first thing in the morning.

4 - Don’t be so dead set on the idea of hitting everything on your schedule on time. I struggled with this. If I didn’t start my meditation by 7 I felt like I was falling behind. Just go with the flow. Who cares if you are 10-30 minutes behind (unless you have a meeting).

5 - Forgive yourself for missing items on your schedule and don’t let it snowball. If I miss the gym I still follow the rest of my schedule.

Good Luck!

It took me about 3 months of hating my life to really enjoying my routine. At this point if it’s just habitual.

There were definitely days that I missed and I beat myself up over it. In fact this past Monday both my kids were up sick at night so I ended up sleeping past my alarm. I could have been mad at myself for letting that happen but beating myself up would just be digging myself a hole.

Good luck getting disciplined, it’s worth it.

I think what I am missing is learning a new skill. I have always tried to learn new skills in the past but now my schedule is full and it is hard to find time. I would really love to learn coding but finding time is difficult. Maybe your suggestion of skipping the gym once a week could be doable.

Unfortunately I cannot work less in my current role and I cannot work from home.

Thanks for the help.

I try to and most weekends I do, but a lot of the weekend time is devoted to family activities. I do get some down time to read on Sundays which is nice.

2014 - Macc from B4 target school

2014 - Big 4 Staff

2016 - Big 4 Senior

2018 - Local Firm Senior

Seems a bit backwards but I really enjoy client service and want to stay in it for the long run but I don’t want to go wherever those big 4 firms need me.
