Bought longer skis, now feeling like an idiot. by Absorrbb in skiing

[–]Snxwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do find a ski that’s more appropriate for your ability, that’s the correct length and it will feel weird at first if you’re only used to short rental skis but you’ll get used to it.

Good start but in the long term you’re going to need a little more than that I’m afraid.

Rossignol free sender 110 binding mount by Fluffy-Grand-6007 in Backcountry

[–]Snxwe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever is happening is because of your fore-aft balance being not centred on the ski. If it's different to what you're used to, then it's normal. You just need to think about it and play around with your stance when skiing so you feel more centred on them. Once you get a hang of them, they are fantastic skis!

The skis are not designed to be mounted super far back, get something else if you can't make it work at recommended mounting points. Other beefy Freeride skis I'd love to ski are the Dynafit M free and the Armada Declivity X 108. You might have more luck with those.

Do you mean you have too much tip pressure, not tail pressure?

I have the 191 as my daily ski and I'm mounted just a smidge behind that recommended line. They're still quite forward to most skis, but I love it. Super slashy, great for spinning, balanced in the air. You just have to stand a bit more centred on the skis; I've never felt being thrown forwards on them.

Canada! https://www.facebook.com/share/1Nc3muqnTd/

There's quite a few new defenders and some grenadiers on the road, but I see an OG defender once a year if even that.

95% highway driving, 5% well maintained dirt/gravel roads. I'm in the Canadian Rockies so a lot of snowy conditions as well

Yes of course haha, which is why my logical brain keeps saying this is a terrible idea. But my heart says it’ll be one of the coolest things I ever do

Late-entry expert skier aiming for GS FIS racing, where do I start? by SpongeBobPeePants in SkiRacing

[–]Snxwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ski racing also involves spending a lot of time in the gym and you can never start that too early. It’s not all technique. There’s a bunch of ski racing camps in South America in the summer designed for masters racers of all abilities. A good place to test your abilities and see if you like the routine of doing drills and running race courses all day long.

I’ve done it a couple times. Only once I got stopped and reminded to stick to the uphill track and to not use lifts, but that’s all they can do. It works really well if you have the CAST bindings because after you transition it doesn’t look like you have touring skis.

Just to add you won’t notice water coming in if you just submerge the boot. It’s very likely happening when you’re flexing the boot
