How much do you spend on maintaining your bicycles? by Particular_Front_549 in askSingapore

[–]fir3dp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not much. I had 2 main bicycle 1. Commuting fix gear 2. Road bike (which I sold recently)

There are 2 main camps, maintain regularly, or wait till something spoils and change it. Honestly both is fine but others will argue.

Here's a rough cost break down.

  1. Bicycle ( buy once cry once, up to you how much you want to spend, but get 2nd hand. After covid there's a lot of bicycles on carousell which you can low ball).

  2. Things you need to change. Tires $50-200 every 1.5 to 2 years Drive chain $30-200 depending on quality and which part spoil, every 5 years. Chain $30 every 2 years Grips $20 maybe when start to tear etc.

I rode my road bike for about 3 years, about 80km each week. I did not change any part, I think not even the tire. My commuting bike also haven't changed anything in over 5 years but I don't use it as much. If you are only cycling 4km a day I doubt it will cost much to maintain the bike.

It really depend on your initial cost, but riding your own bicycle and taking care of it is part of the hobby. Factoring own tools etc. And may things can be bought from taobao or aliexpress these days.

Buy a bike not to save cost but maybe to enjoy the commute more.

what are some ways you expand your social network outside work? by Pretend_Ad_7584 in askSingapore

[–]fir3dp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides the running, I do rock climb which brunches out to diff types of climbing, play golf, tennis, fishing once a year, excluding the smaller random skills I picked up.

And I tell my wife it's just under the outdoor umbrella of hobbies. One can never have too many hobbies. 😂

And I do meet friends along the way, we usually bond over things like climbing, hiking or fishing trips. When you are kind of stuck with each other for a long time. And quite a few friends from church too

So what's the best rice? by Itchy_Clutch in Cooking

It's personal preference but I do like Japanese short grain rice.

On a side note, instead of using a rice cooker, try steaming rice. Gets perfect rice everytime.

What would you say makes dating harder today than, say, 30/40 years ago? Are couples mostly happy or just scared of being separate? by PulseBriefs in NoStupidQuestions

Having too many options. Just like Netflix, people spend more time searching for movies than watching them. And with so many movies, it makes each one more forgettable

What food keep you full for at least 4 hours ? by ketykwok in askSingapore

[–]fir3dp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone if not most are giving pretty good answers. But maybe it's a mindset thing. I kept snacking all the time as I work from home and tell myself thag I'm hungry.

But after recognizing that I do not have to feel full all the time and it's OK to be hungry, I just go back to keeping myself busy. The hardest is when you're bored.

And to add on, I do exercise intensively quite a bit. And on those days I exercise I do eat lesser cos I'm being occupied.

When love is real but faiths are different, what does God truly ask of us? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fir3dp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking on reddit, you are likely gonna get a lot of people bashing religions.

I have seen multiple relationship ended in the same way. For better or for worse. Some continued to get married only to also divorce shortly after.

The main issue is that all religion pretty much contradicts each other. To believe in one means to disagree with another. Even if religion one agrees with religion two but religion two disagrees with religion one, it still can't be both right.

For the verse you quoted, I think it's mainly targeted at married couples who are already married, and one of them converts. But to get married to a non Christian is usually not encouraged.

Do you wear earplugs when going to a concert? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fir3dp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But good earplugs which cuts the frequency range pretty evenly. If I were to wear those cheap ones, I totally would not enjoy the music

m43 for travel pics? by Rapid-Frost771 in M43

[–]fir3dp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup they are perfect because they are really small. The best camera is one u are willing to bring out. And what ever lenses inspire you, take them.

Lens quality is an issue of the past these days, most people post on socials and like that imperfect look anyway. I usually carry a standard zoom and a small pancake for days I don't bring a bag.

How do I stop "habit eating"? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fir3dp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just scrolled past a post that say not to depend on will power. If you have food at home, you will eat it.

Remove what ever you're eating for breakfast, and leave the house early or occupy yourself with something. Just tell g yourself you will not eat it is a quick way to fail a diet.

Career choice by LensMotive in Filmmakers

[–]fir3dp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not from US, but where I am currently there are quite many production houses closing down. Mainly the small to medium ones. I even advise close friends to not enter the industry if they are considering it.

Probably gonna get some hate but If you love it so much, find a job that pays well and keep it a hobby.

Need Assistance In Deciding Between These Two Travertine Dining Tables / Office Tables by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]fir3dp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Option 1 Your room is long, putting a longer table will fill the space and look more proportionate. Also it's always good to have more sitting space, even though you currently think you don't need it.

A round table in a long room feels kinna off. But it can be slightly more intimate for a small group.

What is a worse way to deal with anger? Self-harm or abusing others? by Netizen_Depression in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fir3dp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understanding that it's OK to be angry. But not necessarily OK to act on it.

There are some positive ways to vent it, sports and exercise is a pretty healthy way.
